People are griping about this album and how it is not "Christian" enough. I am a Christian, I have grown up in the church and still attend. I have listened to countless sermons and they have never spoke to me as much as Plumb's lyrics have.
If you did research on Plumb then you would know her lyrics are used for healing. Plumb's lyrics center around the subjects that are too taboo to touch on in the church. If you listen with an open mind and a keen ear, you will see she gets the message across that God does forgive, and heals. In the song "Unforgivable" she is talking about being emotionally and verbally abused and FORGIVING those who have done her wrong. "Nothing's unforgivable" She is practicing forgiveness which is a true Christian value. No, she is not stating that God loves you and she loves God directly but she is getting the point across. Buy this album, listen to it and have an open mind. Have an open mind for us people out there that are too ashamed and embarrassed to talk about abuse, and pain to our male elders in the church.. and be happy.. be happy someone out there isn't afraid to touch on these subjects for us.

One song makes it worth it . . .,

I fell in love with the Plumb song "Send Angels" after hearing it a one of their concerts several years ago. I heard the song again lately, and decided to buy the CD. Let me say that "Send Angels" is by far the best song on the CD. It is absolutely beautiful and energizing. That said, the rest of the CD is a bit disappointing. The music is amateurish and sloppy in several of the songs. However, I like the song "Pennyless;" it's different from the others, which are much harder rock. Plumb is much better in concert than on this CD. However, the CD isn't awful; just don't assume that all the songs are as great as "Send Angels."

I can't say enough about Plumb. This first CD is actually better than their second release, candycoatedwaterdrops..which is a bit less "addictive". I purchased this CD a few months ago and haven't taken it out of my CD changer yet. Even if you aren't a fan of "christian" bands, this is a CD worth picking up.

I didn't know what this CD was when I bought it, but I'm glad I did. It has a great variety of music. It was put together very well. In fact I like it much better than Plumb's new one-Candycoatedwaterdrops. It is very thought provoking yet fun. Willow Tree is one of my favorite songs because it shares a testimony. It shows you that God can pull you out of the lowest places and give you a new life and a new start.

I got the tape for free at a youthgroup, two years ago, so I thought, it was probably some stupid newcomer band. But I was totally wrong, this is an awesome CD. Plum are a Christian Band and the lyrics are Christian, but the portrait the dark sides of spiritual life, not without givin hope, but with a rather dark (though not intimidating) atmosphere. Oh, I have to add something to a post above:

Funky Metal-edged Alternative Disco-dance rock ...?,

It is hard to label the style of this first effort by "Plumb." I doubt they want be tagged with any stereotypical ID's. This CD basically does not fit in any particular genre."Plumb" essentially is Tiffany Arbuckle paired up with an assortment of players that changes line-ups from the recording studio to the arena. Arbuckle and producer/writer Matt Bronleewe provide the lion's share of creative energy into Plumb. Together, they fuse thought-provoking lyrics with a unique funk/metal rock-sound. While the sound is moody and dark, there is some up-beat energy in a couple of tracks ("Crazy", "Concrete"). I can see where this CD could win some critical acclaim from other artists and music critics, but it did not receive much airplay (at least not in Georgia)..... it is not a pleasant CD to listen to from start to finish, but it is a bold venture into a lesser-traveled venue of rock-n-roll.

Plumb's sophomore effort, Candycoatedwaterdrops, was truly a masterpiece, so I assumed that the group's debut CD would be at least as good. Boy, was I wrong. The lyrics are definitely deep and thought- provoking, but the music just doesn't sound very good, almost like a Christian version of No Doubt (Think "I'm Just a Girl" and "Spiderweb"). Tiffany Arbuckle has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Unfortunately, on this CD the instrumentation (which sounds very amateurish)almost drowns out her harmonies completely. Don't get me wrong. I think Plumb is awesome. I just can't believe how bad this CD sounds compared to their second one. Do yourself a favor and spend your money on Candycoatedwaterdrops. It's a million times better.

plumb is one of my favorite christian bands. they're the black sheep of my collection, which consists of mostly supertones, fif, and the like. this cd is so much better than their sophmore release, which has far too strong of a pop overtone for my liking. this one has a very likable edge to it. it reminds me of garbage, alanis morrisette(minus the screaming rage), natalie imbruglia, and no doubt(does zachary hall think this is a bad thing?i like no doubt)buy this cd if you like any of the latter. the only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars is the fact that it doesn't have any of the religious overtones some people might be looking for. other than that, it is completely worth the money.

An Early Gem,
This review is from: Plumb (MP3 Download)
Let me start by saying that I'm not a Christian (in any conventional sense) and I'm not interested in this product from the viewpoint of Christian music. I'm interested in it as music, pure and simple.
With that in mind, this is a fascinating album. I'm not sure how to classify the sound. It's very nineties, but experimental and interesting enough to survive modern listens. They mix electronic textures with thick rhythm-oriented rock in quite innovative ways. The lyrics are searching, psychologically cathartic, poignant and interesting. Overall it's very creative stuff; I've liked it since I was a kid (and was Christian). As other music from that era of my life revealed itself as little more that retarded sloganeering, this and a few others (later DCTalk, Jars of Clay, etc.) have continued to be relevant and vital. This is Christian music that is about more that just shouting "God is awesome" over and over again like a broken record. This is about real human emotions, which is what music should be about. It has a worshipful attitude that still respects my desire for good art. This and Candycoatedwaterdrops are both outstanding efforts in that respect and are, in my mind, the only two Plumb albums worth owning. After Tiffany went solo, the retarded sloganeering I spoke of became a much more prominent part of the music, and the musicianship and songwriting declined considerably. Apparently the other members of the band were more integral than she thought. I want to make it clear that this is not about some beef I have with Christianity or Christian Music. It is perfectly possible to write interesting, challenging, emotionally complex Christian music (Switchfoot's New Way to be Human or Jesus Freak and Supernatural from DCT). It just, by and large, doesn't happen, and the Plumb albums after Candycoatedwaterdrops are examples of that. But this album, and that one, are exceptions to the rule.

GREAT!!!,

Another great diverse album from Miss Tiffany Arbuckle Lee. The first album I got from her was Chaotic Resolve. Well after listening to this, I didn't know if I was listening to the same person. Let me tell ya, Chaotic Resolve blows this one out of the water!!! The bad points on this album are that her voide doesn't have that amazing depth to it, the music isn't as dark (which I like) and "Willow Tree", I SOOOOO dislike this song!!! Here are my ratings:
"Sobering" = 4.5/5 = Very good start, the chorus is a little short though. "Who Am I?" = 4.5/5 = Another good one, but not one that makes your jaw drop either. "Unforgivable" = 5/5 = An amazing song! Great lyrics and enjoyable to listen to. "Endure" = 4/5 = Nice and soft, love it! "Willow Tree" = 2.5/5 = EW!!!! "Concrete" = 10/5 = The best song on the album! WOOT WOOT! "Crazy" = 4.5/5 = Very good, but she says crazy one too many times. "Pennyless" = 3/5 = Another boring song. "Cure" = 4.5/5 = Very good. Pretty cool and solid. "Send Angels" = 5/5 = Hauntingly beatiful, this may actually be the best! "Pluto" = 4/5 = You can't here her vocals very well, but it's ok. If you've bought Chaotic Resolve and planning on buying thsi one, be in for a surprise. It's good overall. |
