An excellent record of experiments with the Roman plumbata, it increases our knowledge of how this weapon was made, used, and its likely effectiveness as a weapon.

4.0 out of 5 stars For military history fans. December 2, 2012

The legions had more than the pilium. The plumbata was a lead-weighted javelin used by late Roman troops. Based on archeological evidence and actual experimentation, the author describes the weapon, how it was used and what its effects were. Interesting stuff for military historians and re-enactors.
