The OpticFilm 7200 is the perfect scanner for photographers and small office/workshop users, offering a variety of possibilities including high quality images for magazines and other printed material, photo enlargements, brochures, digitizing slides/negatives, web pages, as well as images to share with friends on the Internet, and more! So far so good February 16, 2006
I bought this scanner after returning a higher end flatbed scanner that was not sending enough light through the 35 mm slides I was scanning. This scanner does a good job and allows me to brighten up most all of the darker or poorly taken slides.

The software is fairly easy to use although I would like to see an automatic program to clean up imperfections as the manual program takes quite a bit of time and work. The scanner does tend to slow down after completing about 100 slides at one sitting, but has continued to work fine

Great value January 1, 2007
I have owned the Plustek 7200 for about a month now. At first I had a great deal of trouble getting the software to run. However, between the Silverfast software Technical support and especially the Plustek Technical support all is working well. The Plustek support, especially a man named, Carlos, was superb! If you have ever dealt with other companies especially software companies you know how difficult getting good technical support is.

The 7200 scanner itself seems well made and pretty durable. It had a nice mechanical sound (not cheep sounding) and it is easy to slide the holder through the scanner. It does require a minute or two of warm up before use. The Silverfast software is pretty easy to use also, though I have yet to figure out how to make the scratch removal filter work. You have many options when adjusting color, sharpness, and contrast. Do not expect miracles, you can improve the old washed out color etc. but it will not make your old slides look like new digital photos! Also, do not think this is simply a "push a button" and it does it all for you system. It will take several minutes per slide to scan, crop, adjust the color and contrast, and so on. You can scan directly to disk and then use other software you may have to actually manipulate the picture. Also this scanner has the ability to scan anywhere from 300 dotes per inch (DPI) to 24,000 DPI. The reason it is called a 7200 is that 7200 DPI is the "native resolution" of the scanner. Beyond that it is using up-scaling to accomplish the higher resolution. I found that 1800 DPI was a good compromise between picture quality and the time it takes to scan the slide. The higher the DPI the longer it will take to scan each slide. If you are planning to make very large posters out of some of your slides you may wish to use really high DPI settings, other wise it is just going to take more time and use more gigabits to store them. Overall I am very pleased with this scanner.

After a pretty quick search, this was the only mid-priced film scanner I could find. I hadn't ever heard of the brand-name, but I didn't want to invest tons of money (I'm just scanning slides for a family project), but I also didn't want to step down to a flatbed scanner with a slide attachment. So I gave the Plustek it a shot.

So far, so good. I've scanned a few hundred slides and I'm really impressed with the results. Since I don't have "Photoshop," I took full advantage of the bundled software, and it too, works very well. There's lots of ways to play with the photo and correct for color, brightness, contrast, etc. It's great to see slides that have been in my family for 50+ years and bring out the natural skin tones and colors that just aren't in the original slide anymore.

The only reason I didn't give it 5-stars is because the scans are slow. After a pre-scan, diddling with the correction options, and then scanning for real (600x600), I figure it's about 5-minutes per slide. Maybe you have to spend hundreds more to speed that up...I don't know. But bottom line: Unless you have professional needs, this scanner is an excellent value.
