I got this scanner in June of 2010. I didn't begin to use it until just a couple of months ago (late 2010). First let me just say that the software that comes with it is godawful and leave it at that. Not unexpected that default software with a scanner would be bad, but this particular software is beyond the pale. I won't get into details and bore you, but just prepare to spend more money on scanning software that actually works. So I got Silverfast (good old SF) so that I could spend more time scanning and less time cussing. That works well, BUT it did cost me about $400 for the software.
Second, I've used the scanner a total of perhaps 12 hours at the absolute max. So why do I get that little line down the middle of my scans??? Sometimes it's white, sometimes it's red, sometimes it's in the center, sometimes it's off to one side or the other. It might be on the fourth scan, it might be on the 20th scan, and it might be on alternate scans. There is no consistency to it, I did a scan using both softwares, the default and the Silverfast, but the line was still there, so it's not the software. I've tried turning the scanner off and letting it "cool down", but to no avail. I'm not a computer wiz by any stretch, but I have been using scanners and scanning software for about ten years now, so I do know what I'm doing. My little CanoScan 8800F performs much better than this $900 behemoth (plus $110 for Square Trade Warranty - which I will be testing shortly). Now I'll try to get the company to remedy the situation, but I have little hope for decent customer service. Call me a cynic...
