I have been looking for a replacement for my Epson Expression 1640XL scanner for years. I tried the Epson Expression 10000XL and 11000XL scanners and they are a problem because they have a recessed glass and a peg sticking up on the top. If you are scanning oversized images you need a flat unobstructed surface. The Plustek Optipro A320 has a flat, unobstructed surface. It scans flawlessly and fast. The color is consistent across the image so stitching is easy. The Twain driver works without a hitch and for those of you who are scanning directly into Photoshop, it doesn't get any easier.
Before I discovered this scanner, I also ruled out the Contex HD iFlex and the Widetek 25-600. Both of these scanners proved unsuitable for different reasons. The Contex simply didn't work and the Widetek had a recessed glass that prevented acceptable stitching of oversized images.
The Plustek Optipro A320 will cost you less than $500. Epson's 11000XL runs $2,000 or more and both the Contex and Widetek scanners run around $10,000 each.
The A320's scanning quality is excellent. The A320 is also light weight and easy to move around. Finally, it is easy to reach someone at Plustek and they go out of their way to be helpful.
I do fine are reproduction for a living. I have done it for years and I was afraid that I would have to move to a digital camera when my Epson 1640XL finally died. For a host of reasons I did not want to move to a digital camera. Now I don't have to.
Finding this scanner was a Godsend. I was hesitant to try it because the price was so low compared to all the others, but desperation caused me to try it as a last resort. I will never make that mistake again. The proof is in the image quality, not the scanner price.

This scanner allows me to scan my artwork up to 17" x 12" for my websites. It does so with incredible detail and color accuracy. I am extremely pleased with this product and would highly recommend it.

The driver for this scanner is only compatible with older versions of OSX operating systems. I tried to contact the company to see if they would update the driver software anytime soon and didn't get a response.

In terms of scan quality, the surface area is large, but the resolution is not very good. Colors and edges become highly pixelated. So, this is actually not a good scanner for any kind of graphics professional. I bought this scanner for a special project and ended up just using my old scanner. Now I'm stuck with this one and will end up trying to sell it for a loss. Even at a discount, this scanner is not a good deal.

The set up was easy using the CD and printed directions. I set the scanner up to my Windows XP and it was so simple. Scanned two-page recipes off of a very large book (about 12x17). It automatically stores images as jpg and from there you can do what you want with it. I am so happy with the Plustek Optipro A320. It captures every detail and is a very well designed scanner. The amount of space the scanner takes up when you place it on a surface is 24inches wide x 15inches deep x 5inches high. It is large. I have used the scanner to capture and transfer images off of 12x12 cardstock and store them onto my computer. It does great. Also, the lid hinge actually lifts right up and can slide right back down to accomodate books. (One tip on setting up: Do read and follow the directions so everything goes right. Take every step they tell you to in order. Its not lengthy, just precise. The scanner is simple to use after that. Pay attention to the new icon on your desktop. Open it up and look at your choices. Choose scan. Press scan button. Voila!) The scanner is worth what I paid for it $489.21 It came with the USB cable. I was really glad to see that. The manufacturer deserves a little praise for packaging the scanner so it was well ready for transport. There must have been engineers also working on that. There was no way anything could be jostled or moved inside the box. Lid taped down. Scanner bar locked in place. Perfectly secure box within a box. Overall: Excellent product.

Had it less than a year. It was used sporadically. I had about 1,000 scans with it before the head locked up and it won't move now. So right now it has cost about 50 cents a scan. That's a little steep for me.
Update: The scanner was still under warranty. About to return for repair. So far the customer service bests ANYBODY I've dealt with for a while.
And by the way... I'm running OS X 10.8. Scanner Utility works.

I wanted a scanner that would scan 12 x 12 scrapbooking pages. And this scanner does it very well. I can put the entire page on the glass, and everything is captured in the scan except about 3/16 inch on the outside edges. But that was expected, based on what I had read. Biggest issue I had was figuring out HOW to go about the actual scanning and saving the image. The instructions assume you have and know how to use TWAIN software. After much trial and error and trying a few different software products (including the one included on the enclosed CD), I got it to work, and was on a roll!
