Grade 2-4-These competently done titles deal with the history of the colony in segments. They have readable texts with ample white space and large type, appropriate for the youngest readers, but they treat the subjects and students with respect. Sidebars feature additional important information. The full-page, mostly color illustrations on every spread add to the texts. Many are of contemporary scenes; some show reproductions of common objects of the period. The volume on Pilgrims and Native Americans is especially good, explaining the helpfulness of the Wampanoags and the treaty that the colonists signed with their chief, Massasoit. As in the "Plimouth Plantation Museum" series, these titles will do much to clarify myths about the Plymouth Colony.
