Vague and sloppy technical presentation,

This review is from: Pneumatic and Hydraulic Conveying of Solids (Chemical Industries) (Hardcover)
While the book provides a good overview of the technology and has a lot of valuable insights, it is weak on useful specifics and particularly poor at presenting the engineering methodology. The formulas given for pneumatic conveyance system sizing use undefined variables (ex: W in the formula for TEL)and mix variables and their units (ex: P and in_Hg in different instances of the same formula). The example calculations show the correct constants for the units of pressure used (20.34 and inHG) but the values resulting were evidently calculated using 41.37 and a slightly different value for f than is given. Numerous instances where the author recommends that the designer have thorough knowledge of a subject before designing a system, but precious little knowledge is imparted by the text. This text seems designed to promote a consultancy rather than to educate. |
