industrial punk retreading,
By Samuel Clemens (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The PoPo (Audio CD)
usually I don't like to hate, but I have to make an exception for these guys. I saw them recently on their home turf and it was just soooo boring. like big black style with nothing that made big black compelling. not a single thing original other than throwing the random (and usually really annoying) "eastern" riff into the sluggy mix. each song sounds more or less exactly like the one before it to the point that I genuinely thought for a minute that I had accidently set my CD player to repeat. this is just trust fund kids slumming as far as I can tell.

Great ablum from one of the best unknown acts,

This review is from: The PoPo (MP3 Download)
The Po!Po! are a relativly unknown band out of philly that plays mostly house shows in philly, nyc and surronding areas. The band has a dark and mysterious feel to it highlighted by dualing keyboards and vocals, loud drums, and distorted bass/guitar sounds. I saw the band while they were on tour with NIN in Paris and they were unreal and completely raw. There is no flash to their performances (like most pop bands these days) just absolute energy via fast guitar, drum (drummer is so sick live), and keyboard playing. They reminded me A LOT of joy division and if your down for something new, like you never heard before (no joke), I would pick this ablum up or even just a couple songs.
