both sides are great, though converge will make you a fan,

agoraphobic nosebleed chug out ten or so songs of their typical nature: fast as all hell drum machines, scott hull's signature shredding style(although it sounds more punk-based when he's working with ANb). These are all fine songs, though you should really get their actual albums if you want to be blown away. they have better material, but this stuff isn't bad. it'd be cool too, if the songs sounded a little more the way you might imagine them, judging from some of their cool titles(glass tornado, pentagram constellation).the converge side is just plain great. awesome stuff. you'll hear a great mix of styles, hardcore, metalcore, thrash, and some really nice slower stuff. the song 'stretch for miles' is worth the price of the cd. 'my great devastator' sounds like a technically proficient hatebreed and slayer collaborating. just plain awesome. my favorite side.

The Poacher Diaries Will Melt Your Beautiful Brains Out!,

Agoraphobic Nosebleed-Mechanical grind madness dripping with emotion. A far raunchier sound than Honkey Reduction, the drummerless, bassless gods of gore-grind have excelled themselves, and most other bands of this type, with tracks such as 'Centre of the Hive'and 'Pentagram Constellation' .AG NOSEBLEED are grind at its most intense, whilst employing slightly old-skool production values. Just wait for their next album 'Frozen Corpse...'and your head will explode...man.Converge are the greatest band of these times. The most groundbreaking music this planet has ever produced can be found on their latest album 'Jane Doe', yet we recieve a wide variety of genius from Converge on 'The Poacher Diaries'. Ranging from the stomping and ear-splitting 'Locust Reign' to the tranquil beauty present in 'They Stretch For Miles' to the ultimate sound of agony 'My Great Devastator', Converge are gods in their world, or any other. 'Buy the ticket, take the ride'.

Very Intense Listening experience,

With two bands on one disc. Its A great bargain.Tracks 1-9 gives you anb(agoraphobic nosebleed). Most brutal and intense band out there.Fastest band. They are a little more experimental with the sound ,then they were on honky reduction.Well worth giving this band a try .If ya already haven't .So fast and intense a band .There is just no other band out there in comparisson to agoraphobic nosebleed for thier intensity.Tracks 10-15 is converge. This band is I have to say one the best bands I have heard in awhile.Trust me Relapse gave me a winter 2000 sampler. This prompted me to get this cd.Not so much just for agoraphobic nosebleed .Its converge.I like both bands, but converge really impresses me over any band of this style. They are very intense. The singers vocal range is awesome. Its just pierces through you in parts. The instrumentation they use on some the songs is awesome. Please check this cd out .Then from here pick up some other material by these two bands.Split cds are always a pleasure of owning. You get two bands for a low price.Gives a listener an experience of hearing the other band if they haven't yet. Enjoy this cause its worth every penny spent on it.Must have in the serious metal/grind/metalcore heads collection...

ANb + Converge = Noisecore Harmony,

I just finished reading the review from below mine, and I let out a harsh sigh. For someone to badmouth the supreme ANb is sacrilege in the power violence world. Heed no attention to the words listed below, well, just the ones against ANb. The words for Converge are exceptionally pieced; I agree with all. But, I do digress on the opinions for ANb. My main assumption is that he is just not a fan. ANb unleash nine aural assaults on eardrums, never letting go of the stranglehold they grip upon you. With the addition of a new band member, the trio are now stronger than ever. Scott Hull's guitar thrashes away like a swarm of locusts, and Jay Randall's vocals have grown stronger than before. And the drum machine, well, it's still programmed to be faster than Dave Lombardo and Doc from Vader combined. An unending, ceaseless havoc that deploys carnage to your brain. How fun.

Two great bands come together,

The pieces by ANb on this album are not true grind, and don't sound much like Agoraphobic Nosebleed does on FCSWD, but still is like a blow to the head for all the intensity and with the greatest metalcore band of the past, Converge, it is worth buying. This is really Converge's album, you can just tell that their musicianship on their few tracks shines more than Anb's. The recording quality sucks, but both of these bands are awesome, so it naturally satisfied even a critic like me.

Converge/ANB - The Poacher Diaries,
By
This review is from: The Poacher Diaries (Audio CD)
The album's title is "The Poacher Diaries." There are others' whom have destroyed the name of this album with their reviews, expecting the early "downhome" hardcore of Converge. This is the best offerings from both bands. If you like "Jane Doe" this can be thought of as the flux time between earlier Converge and the later material; yet still it has the anthemic nature of early stuff. The ANB tracks are phenominal in their own right. Amazing stuff from both bands, and you're missing out if you don't give it a try.
Bad for floor-punching hardcore fanatics, good for everyone else.

Converge is brutal once again,
By Jeff Wiersma (Grand Rapids, Michigan USA) - See all my reviews

Well kids, just when you thought it was safe to write off metal/hardcore as dead, here comes Boston's Converge with a 6 song bludgoning of insanity. The lyrics are typical for Jacob Bannon, symbolic and twisted, but seem to be a lot more personal. His poetic style lets you crawl inside his wounded psyche and experience pain firsthand. The production and musicianship is once again top notch. One is left to wonder where in the world the guitar riffs came from, they are utter disonant chaotic beauty. The new rhythm section is as tight as the previous, with Nate Newton's bass thundering and pummeling. His background vocals are an excellent compliment to Bannon's high pitched wailings, and the two together send shivers down the spine. Newton's vocals were one of the main reasons many people loved Jesuit so much, and with good reason. The eerie psychedelic stylings of They Stretch for Miles is actually rather catchy and a good hook. Converge's live show is not to be missed, the brutality and technicality are amazing to witness in person. The only reason I did not give this recording 5 stars is because (a) it has Agoraphobic Nosebleed on it and (b) the artwork in the cd sleeve is hideous and a bad iron-maiden rehash at best. So copy the converge lyrics, throw out the cd sleeve and enjoy the METAL!

I love Agoraphobic Nosebleed and the tracks you get on here are pretty good. I am not a fan Converge so...eh but for the tracks of ANb alone its worth getting this CD and if your a fan of both bands then this is a must get!

thanksgiving dinner,
This review is from: The Poacher Diaries (Audio CD)
you know what, usually agoraphobic nosebleed mash my ear drums and then eat them for dinner. but this time around, my ear drums are not mashed and i think that agoraphobic nosebleed (ANb from here on in) are just having grilled cheese for dinner. i mean don't get me wrong, ANb usually makes me feel like a little girl (in the good way), but this time, not so much.
HOWEVER converge turned my mashed ear drums into a whole thanksgiving feast. like i am talking turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, brussel sprouts and everything. my grandma and grandpa were there. it was amazing. i used to think that you fail me was converge at their hungriest, but their performance on this split shows that these guys are starving and would most likely chew on your face if you let them. i recommend letting them. |
