5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for its purpose
This version, one of about 6 I have read so far, is excellent because it is a clearly, simply written, with no commentary, and most important of all, IT FITS IN A SHIRT POCKET, with room to spare! 2.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book but...
The Bhagavad Gita by Winthrop Sargeant is probably one of the best translations and it fits into your pocket! That's the good part. Unfortunately, as soon as you open the book, all pages come apart. The quality of the binding is extremely poor and that's the reason I gave only two stars for the book.

It is a bargain for the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars when they say pocket, they mean pocket, November 19, 2003
This review is from: Pocket Bhagavad Gita (Paperback)
This is a tiny book; it fits in the palm of your hand (approx. 3"x4"). It is lovely and succinct, however. I only wished it had the transliterated Sanskrit, but then it wouldn't be so portable. Great subway reading. Just wanted to add this comment since I was wondering the exact size when ordering.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite translation of a timeless spiritual classic, March 29, 2000
This review is from: Pocket Bhagavad Gita (Paperback)
The Bhagavad Gita is to Hindu India what the Sermon On The Mount is to the Christian Church. It is also a wonderful story about a discussion between a figure who is a human incarnation of God, and his disciple and friend.

I have read 5 different translations of this classic work, and this one is the best, most readable to my western mind.

It can be read as the song of God, or as a beautiful story. The language flows smoothly, and is easily comprehendable, and transmits the beauty of the original.

I highly recommend it.

Stepping Off the Edge: Learning & Living Spiritual Practice
This great little edition fits in you pocket. I carry it with me for those odd moments when I want a spiritual pick me up. I associate the car wash with the Bhagavad Gita. So many opportunities to study the scriptures of your choice.
