I bought this Pocket CO detector for my airplane, to replace a different brand which died and which wasn't as sophisticated--not as sensitive and no digital read-out.

Single engine airplanes use a muff around an exhaust pipe to provide heat to the cabin, so that if there is any leakage, it's possible to get carbon monoxide from the exhaust system into the cabin. The really nice attributes of this Pocket CO detector are its small size, the replaceable battery, and its sensitivity--much more sensitive than the typical home CO detector. In fact, I've had it detect CO on its digital read-out from idling too long with the window open while waiting in line for other airplanes to take off, although it hadn't reached the level to set off the alarm. I have it mounted on the panel of the airplane with a couple small pieces of Velcro, being careful not to cover the vent holes for the detector.

When I first bought the Pocket CO detector, I took the time to check all of the rooms of the house, since we have 2 gas fireplaces, a gas furnace, and a gas water heater, as well as a gas cook-top. While it confirmed that there was no measurable CO in the rooms with the other appliances, it did show a small amount of CO on its digital read-out in the kitchen when the cook-top was on--not enough to set off any alarms, but enough to remind us to turn on the vent fan and/or open a window when cooking.

We also take it with us when we travel by car, although so far it has not indicated any CO in the car or in any motel rooms in which we've stayed.

Carbon monoxide is the silent killer. There have been such tragic consequences of carbon monoxide in homes and apartments that Colorado now has mandated CO detectors in all apartments and whenever a house is transferred to new owners. Everyone should have CO detectors in their homes, at the very least, if they have any fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, fireplaces, or stoves. This is one of the better ones.

I lit up a cigarette and this thing started to beep. Very sensitive to CO, excellent measurements, and after I tested it, it was consistent with the CO experts wall meter I have.

This is the perfect little guy for the job. Easily stays with you, out of the way.
Price is way better than other huge bulky detectors.
We highly recommend this one.

I have to admit, I didn't expect to receive such a great little carbon monoxide monitoring device in such a small package. This small monitor fits easily in the palm of your hand, clips to your clothing or attaches to your car's dash. The sensitivity is incredible. I didn't realize that I was getting up to 25 ppm of CO while sitting in traffic waiting for a light to change! I use this device to measure CO levels in my home around various combustion appliances and to monitor the car exhaust the seeps into my home through the attached garage. I had the monitor on in one of the big box stores and had the alarm go off while I was inside. Carbon monoxide deaths have increased in recent years because of the tightness of newly constructed homes. This device is a great personal protection tool and I highly recommend it.

A new law in WA requires these monitors in residences, and it's a real wild ride finding one that isn't flawed in some way, which would result in false alarms in the middle of the night; both scary and annoying?

Read Amazon reviews on the many products of this type offered here, and then saw Cary's review for this item, and fortunately made the decision to buy the last one currently available on Amazon.
(Before writing this review, however, I researched enough to learn that these are still available online from various companies, so feel this information is worth sharing.)

The best aspect of this item is that it can be turned OFF when not in use. Since I intend to 'test' my home once a week, during the daytime while awake, being able to switch off is important to me. If you're wondering why I wouldn't leave it on all the time, simply because I live in an all-electric residence, without any fuels being burned; technically, this fact should exempt need for a carbon monoxide alarm? Not where the 'law' is ordained, though . . .
no 'decent' comment to add about that ~~!!

The unit is small, easy to carry to hotels, friend's homes as a guest, and on public transport, also . . . might as well get full value from it? !!
Easy to read, excellent instructions for use, and dead simple operation.
Reasonable price.
Highly recommend ~~!!
