3.0 out of 5 stars Small, compact diary of food eaten and exercise
This small book is a great place to record the food and exercise that takes place on a daily basis. It is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse. The only problem is that the pages fall out of the binding. I wound recommend making it spiral and adding more weeks. What a great price.

The only way to lose weight is to take in less calories then you burn every day. I knew I needed to do that when I purchased this book and the companion Doctor's Pocket Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter. I decided to give use the diary for the ten weeks it covers and if I didn't lose at least ten pounds I wouldn't bother with it again. When I hit a weight loss of 20 pounds and still had some weeks to go I knew i had found a system that would work for me. And yes I did try all kinds of other diets.

Like other reviewers say it quickly becomes clear to you where those extra calories are coming from. I stopped using the diary and my weight loss stalled. It is so easy to forget you ate a little too much the day before.

How well has it worked? So far I've dropped two jeans sizes. My friends have seen my success and purchased copies for themselves.

I really like that it tracks your exercise each day. And it tracks your water intake. The fat counter helps me see if I am eating a high density or low density food. This little book taught me what was wrong with my diet.

I have found using Allan's Food and Exercise Diary, along with his fat and calorie counter book, to be incredibly helpful in losing weight and getting in shape. Anyone who is serious about wanting to lose weight, whether it be 5 lbs or 100 lbs, absolutely must keep a food diary. I have tried to lose weight for years unsuccessfully. I recently started keeping this food diary every day, and so far I have lost 10 lbs! It has a very easy-to-use format, and has a section of tips. It allows you to track your progress. It is small enough for me to carry in my purse, so I never miss a beat. It really helps me feel in control while I'm dieting. Along with enough daily exercise, keeping a food diary is absolutely the way to go. I have raved about this book as well as the Fat and Calorie counter to my friends, several of whom want to get it now! I can't emphasize enough how much help it has been in losing weight. I finally feel like I CAN do it! And you can too!!

This little book is so easy to carry around. I love the simple format. Makes it easy to keep track of calories. I used it the entire time I was pregnant and kept my weight down. I'm still using it and think it's fun adding up the calories at the end of the week. This is a great book. You can see your results every day and week.

5.0 out of 5 stars 27 lbs and counting!!, November 30, 2001
By
This review is from: The Pocket Food & Exercise Diary (Paperback)
I'm recommending this book to everyone I talk with that is interested in how I lost 27 lbs! Keeping a daily log is the ONLY way to go! It not only keeps you honest, but educates you on exactly how much you eat and of what. You learn how to eat low density foods in place of high density foods in order to meet your daily and weekly goals. The days are summarized into weekly averages and this helps keep you focused on a daily average of calories. If you eat a bit too much one day, you know you have the next day to eat a bit less, in order to keep your weekly average down. My goal is to loose 30 lbs and I only have 3 left to go...thought I would never see this day! The book doesn't cost much...go ahead and buy it and start loosing weight! Good Luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, April 10, 2003
This review is from: The Pocket Food & Exercise Diary (Paperback)
This has to be the best guide I have seen for documenting food consumption. Not only does this guide take into account the calories consumed but also the calories expended. Since this is exactly what our bodies do, this is an idea guide. I highly recommend this guide (and accompanying food counter) to anyone who is interested in weight loss and\or maintenance. It is absolutely well worth every penny. (Note: the guide is updated each year - don't foolishly give up the old guide, as I did, until you have the new guide in hand).

This diary was a LIFESAVER during my on going weightloss! It was amazing how journaling my food intake helped me fight the "binges"! I would recommend this for anyone wanting to lose weight or identify problem areas in their diet.

5.0 out of 5 stars A definate must for dieters!!!, September 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Pocket Food & Exercise Diary (Paperback)
I always knew that food journals were important for a successful diet and this journal is the best! 10 weeks for you to record your exercise, measurements and food consumption as well as liquid intake which is often overlooked. It's inspiring and very easy to use. (Be sure you have a calorie book, like the one they suggest buying along with this one, so you don't have to worry about memorizing numbers when you get home or cook something on your own.) They have great tips in the front for a healthy lifestyle. Remember the word "diet" is not a giant undertaking-it's a word that describes the way you eat wheather it be a "healthy diet" or a "not-so-healthy diet". This book will help you realize what it is about your current "diet" that needs to be changed to make your "healthy diet" a part of your daily lifestyle for the rest of your life! Good Luck!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars No worries weight loss, July 12, 2002

Fantastic habit maker. From 88 kgs to 81 kgs in 10 weeks, without trying too hard. Due to unforeseen circumstances I only kept 7 out of 10 weeks records, but the results are satisfactory. Bear in mind this is a process of habit making and continuous self-education about your health and fitness. This pocket diary helps us make and break habits and transform beer bellies into six packs. Starting the next diary now with new goals and new habits. Enjoy.
