It may be a different experience for others who don't get the full book first, but we actually like the pocket guide better-- for example they put Transfers before Stayman whereas in the full book you learn a set of rules for Stayman that you have to adjust once you get to the Transfers chapter. Very clear, concise, great to review periodically to make sure you and partner agree on every detail of each convention. I don't think you need the full book if you have this pocket guide.

My husband and I love this little book. We can hardly wait until we play well enough to use some of the more arcane conventions. Each description of how/when to use a particular convention is concise and clear. Truly a gem of a book for intermediate bridge players...

I use this guide to review conventions, etc. before I play each week. The book is small, succint, and very accurate.

After a hiatus of some 30 years,I have recently discovered the joys of duplicate bridge along with a close friend of many years. About a month ago, In our first try at the local bridge club here in eastern Contra Costa County (San Francisco Bay Area) my partner and I were carved up like Christmas Turkeys as a result of total lack of understanding of almost all of the contemporary conventions. It was like going to a knife fight without a knife!

Rather than spend the rest of our bridge playing career as the club chumps we each bought a copy of the "25 Conventions You Need to Know", and have been moving up the placement ladder, finishing a respectable tie for 2nd in a 8 team shootout last week, and would have had second place all to ourselves if the Ace of Spades had not slipped out of my hand when reaching for a less significant pasteboard while defending a ambitious 4 spade contract.

Now with the "Pocket Book" in hand - for easy reference and concise explanations - we fully expect to rollover the locals like so much chaff before the sickle, and move on up to the Regionals and Nationals and demonstrate you can teach old dogs new tricks.

This is a great book for a simple, concise explanation of common bridge conventions. It doesn't weigh you down with pages of description and rules, it just states the important parts. It has transfers, Michaels, Jacoby 2NT, Blackwood, Gerber, strong 2C opening, doubles, etc. It's easy to keep in a purse to go through when you have a few minutes to kill.

I have just started teaching basic bridge to folks who, in most cases, have never even attempted to play before. We also draw some rusty players who may have had experience, albeit slight or decades ago, with conventions. This is a quick, easy reference and includes a few things not covered in any of my other bridge books.

The guide appeared large print and colorful on line when indeed it is small print and very nondescript. It

would be difficult to "look at a glance" but would require time to find what you were looking for.

This book has several conventions neatly and thoroughly described in it. It is great to take to tournaments if you are unsure and need a quick review. Great for beginners and intermediate players.
