This book assembles information about the choices we make, pointing out some of the false economies we typically engage in. For example, the author points out how a woodfire can leave less of an environmental impact than other forms of heating, since fuel is often burned in the transportation of the other fuels. I would not have expected that use of an efficient woodstove would reduce my carbon footprint.

Helpful web links are sprinkled throughout the book, providing in-depth reading on topics of particular interest.

It's a great, informative starting point for the responsible person who wants to equip him- or herself to be more responsible.

I guess the title should have tipped me off, but maybe the Idiot's Guide series should have a companion set of volumes labeled the Completely Uninformed Guides. This book was written to perhaps a third grade level audience, particularly third graders who have no current events education whatsoever. Anyone reading/watching/surfing any media will learn nothing new.
I bought the book because there was nothing else available; if you are looking for a guide to calculating carbon footprints, keep searching, as I am.
