4.0 out of 5 stars What you need to know
This book assembles information about the choices we make, pointing out some of the false economies we typically engage in. For example, the author points out how a woodfire can leave less of an environmental impact than other forms of heating, since fuel is often burned in the transportation of the other fuels. 1.0 out of 5 stars For Idiot's Only
I guess the title should have tipped me off, but maybe the Idiot's Guide series should have a companion set of volumes labeled the Completely Uninformed Guides. This book was written to perhaps a third grade level audience, particularly third graders who have no current events education whatsoever. This book assembles information about the choices we make, pointing out some of the false economies we typically engage in. For example, the author points out how a woodfire can leave less of an environmental impact than other forms of heating, since fuel is often burned in the transportation of the other fuels. I would not have expected that use of an efficient woodstove would reduce my carbon footprint.

Helpful web links are sprinkled throughout the book, providing in-depth reading on topics of particular interest.

It's a great, informative starting point for the responsible person who wants to equip him- or herself to be more responsible.

I bought the book because there was nothing else available; if you are looking for a guide to calculating carbon footprints, keep searching, as I am.
