Book Description

April 30, 2004
A daily prayer companion for the many Christians who would describe themselves as Anglo-Catholic (and who comprise one-third of the Church of England), this is a complete resource with orders of morning, midday, evening and night prayer. It also provides variations for the liturgical seasons, holy days, festivals, initiation and healing, prayers for the rosary and Station of the Cross and prayers in preparation for the Eucharist. A portable, abridged version of the daily devotional companion, it contains the full text of the larger volume apart from the Psalms and Canticles, the optional Eucharist prayers and the longer daily readings. Ideal for travellers or as a confirmation gift.

4.0 out of 5 stars Calling All Western Catholic Christians!, October 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Pocket Manual of Anglo-catholic Devotion (Paperback)
The Pocket Manual of Anglo-Catholic Devotion has gleaned prayer forms, both well-known and fairly obscure, from the wealth of of Western Catholicism. In my opinion, Roman Catholics, Episcopalians, and Lutherans would probably benefit most from this volume, though any Christian with an interest in prayers and prayer forms from the last 1000 to 1500 years might also enjoy this book. There are forms for the Eucharist and Daily Prayer for almost any occasion or season. Particularly English items include collects, etc. from the Church of England's "Common Worship", prayers in honor of Our Lady of Walsingham, and a gem penned by Thomas More-a prayer for one's enemies. The only drawback to this inclusive and prayerful book is it's organization. It's a bit "choppy". However, I didn't let that one thing dampen my enthusiasm or my prayer time. If you ever thought that Catholics, (of any persuasion), worshipped Mary or placed the intercession of the saints above the mediation of Jesus, please read this book. You'll find that all those types of concerns are needless. The focus of this small but "packed" prayer book is the communion of saints gathered to worship and glorify the God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
