no text included,

This review is from: Pocket Medical Spanish Compact Disc (English and Spanish Edition) (Audio CD)
This product is not really for the beginner speaker. I took 4 years of Spanish and it was still difficult for me to repeat some phrases as I just coudln't understand them. It would have been nice if a transcription was included. Actually I believe it should come with some flashcards as the speaker says "point to the card" which is supposed to be included (but wasn't I suspect in order to make more money and sell the text and CD separately).
Anyways, it does generally give some good phrases for Internal medicine and some psychiatric questions, however, not really anything for pediatrics, surgery or even what the general organs are called in spanish (though I think they included heart). I give it 3 stars because you can learn something from this CD, which I have, but it suffers from there being no text included.

Spanish is my second language, and I'm probably a high-intermediate to advanced speaker (lived in a Spanish-speaking country for several years as a teenager a long time ago). However, I never picked up many medical terms since they just don't come up much in everyday language among healthy young people (we didn't sit around talking about edema and constipation and rashes); but now I need to learn it for my nursing job in a hospital.
What I like about this tape: It doesn't spend time teaching level one vocabulary such as numbers, days of week, and greetings, which most of the other products appear to do. This product assumes one already knows how to conjugate verbs and is fairly competent at Spanish. I definitely learned a lot of useful medical terminology. My complaints: A man says the item in English (clear). A woman repeats in Spanish (clear). Then they give you a moment to repeat. However, (a) the silence for my turn is usually too brief; (b) they don't repeat the Spanish again after I've had my moment, which would help me to see if I got it correct, for it to sink in, and to see how I could do better -- and I don't want to be rewinding every second; and (c) they often combine more than one sentence for you to repeat, such that I forget what I'm supposed to be saying halfway through. So basically they are just rapidly reading a spanish item and a translation, with a short pause in between. At least they could have provided a transcription, which apparently exists since they talk about "card 14" and such. I imagine it would be a frustrating product for beginning Spanish speakers.

Excellent resource,
This review is from: Pocket Medical Spanish Compact Disc (English and Spanish Edition) (Audio CD)
I have never had any Spanish training in the past and found this CD to be extremely helpful. Expect to understand/repeat only about 10% the first time through. By the time you have reviewed it about a dozen times, you will feel confident enough to ask the most basic questions. It will improve care for those patients who only speak Spanish. I initially learned the phrases without the book, which is more difficult, but makes you listen harder.
