I have been buying this book for myself since it's first publishing, then end up giving it to someone who needs this more than I do (I speak Spanish). This is a well planned and layed out book for all medical professionals who come in contact with Spanish speaking people whether all day long or infrequently. Rarely is there a translation tool that gets to the point quickly without leaving the medical professional in the dark. In 1999, I went with a relief team to Nicaragua in the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch. We managed to treat more than 140 patients in three days with the help of this little book! It is easy to understand and to use. You can use the pronunciation or just point to the sentence and you get a straight forward answer. It's that simple! I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a medical question that needs to be answered quickly regardless of the profession. We need more books like these for all professions in the public and private sector. Buy it!

This is a great book for any medical professional who feels the frustration of trying to help a Spanish-only speaking patient and fells "tied", and helpless. You don't need to study this book to learn Spanish but rather start using it for history and physical and by time the language will be automatically embedded in your head. I love this book.

I refer to this handy little flipbook on a regular basis. It is well-organized and extremely easy to use. I uploaded the audio CD to my iPod and listen to it all of the time (while waiting in grocery lines, exercising, etc.). I wish that they would make another with even more medical terms. Don't hesitate...buy this now. You won't regret it!

This book is very helpful when talking with patients. Even if you can not speak well, it is written in Spanish on the opposite page and they can be reading along with you in case your pronountiation is not accurate.

nice bargain - fits in lab coat pocket. covers basic categories, helpful, but not comprehensive. shipped quickly though and received in great shape.

i was looking for something to help bridge the gap between my high school spanish courses many years ago and communicating with the massive amounts of spanish speaking patients. this is better than nothing, but some things i wanted to ask weren't in here and some things that i usually dont ask are in here. definitely more optimal for an ambulatory setting as opposed to inpatient medicine

i guess i just need to break down and learn some more spanish for real and not rely on little pocket books

I don't speak any Spanish. I have not found this pocket guide to be very helpful. Perhaps I'm a specialist and need something more specific for my specialty.

This book is a wonderful aid for those who are trying to learn medical Spanish, or need a tool to treat patients who only speak Spanish (when you have no Spanish experience). All you need to know is Si, No and No Se (yes, no and I do not know); and with these three phrases you can treat a patient immediately and effectively. They even have a tape or CD that can accompany the book. What a well thought out book for anyone who needs medical Spanish to advance their career or needs to treat patients on a medical missionary trip. Well done Dr. Dollinger! It is so easy, the first time I picked up the book I was ready to go in a few minuets.

This would be excellent for a physician and/ or primary care nurse in an ambulatory setting

The book is really good if you don't know spanish and just want to read something to the patient and get a response that you don't understand. Don't get me wrong, it really is a decent book, but the emphasis is certainly not on learning medical spanish and is more on getting your point across to the patient. How you would interpret their answer will remain a mystery to me...I'll let you know how it went when I get back from our medical missions trip to Nicaragua.
