For people looking for a brief, concise review of their prescription drugs, this book is an excellent resource to go to. Discusses indications, usual dosages, and side effects. Also has a Pill Identification guide for quick identification of medication.

Also Recommended: The Pill Book 15th edition http://www.amazon.com/The-Pill-Book-15th-Edition/dp/0553593560/ref=pd_sim_b_3

UPDATE: Jan 2012- This Book is quickly becoming outdated. PDR Should release a new one. The Pill Book comes out in April. Wait for that or get a nursing book instead. Shouldn't be the first option. The internet is also available for drugs.

I am amazed when people just blithely start popping the pills that their doctor prescribes without first doing some basic research into the drug. You know those papers with all the drug side effects and precautions that you get AFTER you pick up your prescription? This book has it all spelled out in good plain English. Also reviews the common dosage of each drug and for what conditions the drug is prescribed. For those who want to stay informed, this is a must-have item. Especially for those who may be seeing more than one doctor (the eye doctor, the gynecologist, the family physician, etc.) who might want to prescribe something. Being pro-active about your health is all important. Use ONE pharmacy for all your prescriptions...hopefully your pharmacist will alert you if you have two prescriptions that you are taking that are in conflict. But just in case he does not catch it...you can. Stay healthy by being aware!

This is a perfect little pocket guide to prescription drugs. We bought this because we wanted a small guide for certain medications/antibiotics should there be a serious emergency situation...all preppers should have one of these. This guide is nice because it has great descriptions, dosages, side effects and pictures of the drugs. Great reference.

Having a stock pile of meds is useless unless you know what they should be used for and how much. This book is just what we needed to pack with our med stores.

Informative but generics need also to be covered. Only one of the 5 drugs I take for blood pressure were listed..

The title is misleading and this is not for healthcare providers but rather the general audience. It provides very basic information about medications and is worthless for providers to use as a resource.

I began using this a few years back if I needed to research a certain Rx. But I noticed that new prescriptions were coming out so fast, this manual didn't keep up with all the new medications even within the year of issuance. I also noticed that certain prescriptions (especially the generics) were dropped off the list (based on PDR 9 vs PDR 7), even though those prescriptions were still being offered.
