dEUS...America needs you!, November 2, 2005
Having been an avid dEUS fan since seeing them on tour with Blur in 1997 (their last US tour), I wait with bated breath for every new album (unfortunately, that means every 4 years or so). I'm writing this review after only 2 listens of "pocket revolution". Overall, it's dEUS, so you know it's gonna be good...as good as "Ideal Crash"? Not quite...so pick that one up first if you want to get into the more accessible dEUS. But "Pocket" is a damn fine album...let's face it, the guys are getting older...the songs reflect. No straight rockers "ala Suds n Soda" here, but the old dEUS shines through to these new tracks nonetheless. Some of the highlights.... Bad Timing: great building crescendo piece. 7 days,7 weeks: just plain beautiful all around. If you don't get what you want: this is textbook dEUS..listen to that amazingly quirky guitar riff..how can anyone not love this? Cold Sun of Circumstance: another dEUS classic in the making. Sun-Ra: more like HOO-RAH! This album is not perfect (4 stars), there are one or two tracks that don't bowl me over, but I can say that about any dEUS album...the other good thing is that dEUS albums tend to grow on you the more you listen..lots of things to pick out, lots of layers, great replay value! BUY THIS ALBUM! Buy ALL dEUS ALBUMS (except my sister=my clock ep...a low mark in the dEUS timeline)...I love these guys...Belgium's best need to tour the states once again! PLEASE!!!

dEUS are back, March 30, 2006
"dEUS are back. As the last millennium flickered to a close and fresh from releasing the sublime third album Ideal Crash and the Europe-wide sell out extravaganza of the accompanying tour, new vistas began to beckon and a trail of personal solo musical projects and, in lead singer Tom Barman's case, the small matter of writing and directing his debut movie, 'Any Way The Wind Blows', led the band in a myriad of different directions. So diversely busy has the band been that it is a wonder that they actually made it back so quickly. The page turns and now dEUS are back. New album, new line up, new passion. Drummer Stéphane Misseghers (ex Soulwax) joined dEUS as they began work on the new album. The line up was finally crystallized in the Autumn of 2004 when Alan Gevaert (ex Chris Withley & Arno) joined on bass and, Craig Ward, having moved on to pastures new, was replaced in dEUS by friend and musical cohort, the legendarily and effortlessly cool Mr Mauro Pawlowski (formerly the lead singer with the much missed Evil Superstars and also Mitsoobishi Jacson amongst many other fine incarnations). Pre-Christmas gigs sold out in an instant, and rave reviews suggested a prodigal return. The promise of a fourth studio album of new material, whet the appetite of all who were familiar with the musical landscape that dEUS had thus far created and new audiences will surely beckon. dEUS may have been a little tardy of late, but no one can doubt that this fourth album will further the musical canon of a band in perpetual motion - in measure enchanting, confounding, heartbreaking and dazzling, but never ever disappointing. The stage is set and dEUS are now on tour promoting their new album "Pocket Revolution"." Less experimental, more guitars and the most beautiful dEUS song: "Nothing really ends" (previously released on their singles collection). As usual, you have to listen to it a couple of times before you judge it. Buy it and listen to it at least 10 times in a row... You'll love it.

clever entertainment, May 20, 2006
not as eclectic and adventurous as their previous works, sounds like a conscious attempt at reaching a wider audience with a more conventional pop-rock oriented product. The songwriting is good. Overall an above-average CD (for the market, not for the band) that's certainly worth listening to and possibly buying.
