There is a messaged stamped on the back of the package: "CLEAN THIS PRODUCT BEFORE USE". I thought, "Alright, I guess I should probably wash it out before putting toothpicks in it." I put a drop of dish soap and some water into the holder and shook it up. After rinsing with clean water I ran a Q-tip inside the toothpick holder to soak up any excess water. When I pulled the Q-tip out my jaw nearly hit the floor--the white cotton head of the swab was completely black.

I ran at least 50 (I'm not exaggerating...50) Q-tips into the holder trying to get the swab to come out clean. Once I realized mere soap and water weren't going to be enough, I pulled out the Goo Gone to put on the swabs. The main difficulty with cleaning it is that the diameter of the case is so small thus you can't scrub the interior walls at an efficient angle.

It took me about 30 minutes of Goo Gone, soapy water, clean water, and dry Q-tips to finally get this cheap little toothpick holder clean. I think only the exterior was wiped down after manufacturing and all of the cutting fluid and machining debris was left inside. If you don't clean it, you will be putting machining oil into your mouth every time you pull out a toothpick.

If you are willing to put in the time to thoroughly clean this little guy then I would recommend it. I would give this holder 5 stars if it was clean upon arrival. The cost, size, and quality are all excellent. It is the perfect size to keep in a laptop bag or purse and it seems well made.

I was able to easily fit 14 Brushpicks into the case without them being wedged in.

a simple metal tube with a screw-on cap (my last toothpick holder had a rubber cap which got lost), and removable pocket clip that snaps on and off. holds about 10 or 11 standard round toothpicks. it will hold the 12 they recommend, but it makes for a tight fit that doesn't allow them to slide out easily.

overall great product.

A great, simple product that REALLY does what you want it to. I have tried several such items and this is the only one worth every penny.

This is NOT a 100% Stainless toothpick holder, as the marketing leads one to believe. The primary tube is stainless steel, but the threaded portion of the tube and the cap are chrome-plated brass.

Does the tube hold toothpicks? Yes, it holds 5 toothpicks tightly.

Is it constructed well? Yes, with the exception of using dissimilar metals, the design is nicely accomplished. I was further impressed with the plastic sleeve/insert for the primary tube.

Is the product functional? Maybe - this depends on if you are using it for flavored or traditional toothpicks and if you store the flavored toothpicks in this container. The tube works well for traditional toothpicks. If using flavored toothpicks, be aware that the exposed (not plated) brass on the inside of the cap will react with the toothpick oils, thereby developing corosion; thereby tainting the toothpicks.

CONCLUSION: This is a great product to transport flavored toothpicks for the evening, but must be washed and dried before the next use. This is also a great product for transporting and storing traditional toothpicks. CAUTION: DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT TO STORE FLAVORED TOOTHPICKS UNTIL THE NEXT USE.

VENDOR RECOMMENDATION: Manufacture the brass components from stainless steel to make the product functional for typical usage; bring the retail pricing and marketing inline with the actual product quality/performance.

I ordered 2, and both of them had a significant amount of oil from the machining process left in them. I planned to keep tea tree oil soaked tooth picks in them, but that only seems to make it worse. I spent a considerable amount of time cleaning them with alcohol and q-tips, but the toothpicks still seem to always get a little black on the end that rests at the bottom. Ultimately they do the job, but could have been clean.

It's just what I needed - my new pocketknife has no toothpick; didn't realize how much I relied on that. This holder is small, seems nicely made. Not at ALL dirty as previous reviews have said -- perhaps they changed up the process. Plastic insert. Nice price. Very pleased.

It's three and one quarter inches long, three eighths in diameter not counting the pocket clip, and will hold 7 or 8 round toothpicks without being too tight to get stuck.

Since I am used to carrying other things in my pants pockets, this toothpick holder is not a problem for me. It can be clipped on a shirt pocket as well.
