About the Author

Barbara-Ann Gamboa Lewis was born in Manila, Philippines. Her formal schooling was interrupted by World War II when the Philippines was captured and occupied by the Japanese Army. Ultimately, she earned her B.S. degree in Chemistry, and her Ph.D. in Soil Science, and is now on the faculty at Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering. She has three grown children and four grandchildren. She believes that children everywhere will identify with some of the experiences of the biracial child in this story, and thus relate better to children from different cultural backgrounds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Personal Story of Growing Up in the Philipines, May 14, 2001

This review is from: Pocket Stones: A Child's Story of World War II in the Philippines (Hardcover)
This is a charming story of the true life experiences of a girl (now a Grandmother) growing up in the Philipines during World War 2.

I am sure that teen-agers would enjoy reading this book, as well as adults. It's a small book and can be read in a matter of hours. I found I could not "put this book down"!

Very appealing!
