NIV Pocket Thin New Testament With Psalms & Proverbs

This pocket size NIV is especially good for giving as a gift to friends you want to share the gospel with. Having the Psalms & Proverbs is really a plus. Easy to read sharp black text on white paper ...the size/price allows you to keep several on hand to give away as needed.

This is a great resource to keep in your briefcase, backpack, purse, or locker, and I am buying more to give to some Christian college students who can keep them in their backpacks for being equipped to share the Word at any time with others or for personal time with the Word. I was amazed that the type was actually more readable than I thought it would be, and the quality of the paper and type are excellent for something this compact. I love to read the corresponding Proverb for the calendar date of the month (31 days in most months; 31 Proverbs; coincidence? I think not!). I have friends who go backpacking out in the middle of nowhere, and I plan to give them one of these and a waterproof zipper bag to keep it in so when they are out in the middle of nowhere they can still have the Word of God with them in a lightweight package.

I plan to keep one in my desk at work, and in my car console so when I am waiting in the car for someone I can take a few minutes to read a Psalm or Proverb and be uplifted in that short interim. Often when I travel there simply is not enough room for a full Bible in my carry on stuff, but this NT with Psalms and Proverbs will definitely now be a regular part of my carry-on stuff! The books of Psalms and Proverbs are two of the most wonderful and uplifting books in the entire Bible, and having them here is a huge bonus. Who ever thought of adding them in this New Testament was a genius! And using the well-respected NIV translation makes this package totally irrestible to me.

Finally, for a book of over 500 pages, the cost of this is very reasonable, and makes giving as gifts very sensible.

This is a delightful sized New Testament to carry around in your purse, briefcase, or pocket. It is in the most popular translation of the day, and a very readable translation. It is not only a great personal purchase so you can read it while out and about during your busy day, but it is also a great gift to give for adults and young adults.

My edition is missing the last four chapters of the Gospel of Luke, as well as the first three chapters of John. I like the product otherwise, but I really sort of was looking for the whole New Testament.

This New Testament is a great buy for simply having the text easily available. It also includes the Psalms and Proverbs--something I make use of.

The type is quite readable. The boldface verse numbers sometimes get in the way. The two-column format doesn't seem to make much since with such small pages, and because of the small text width, the hyphenation can be little odd. For example, it hyphenates "stronghold" at the end of a line as "stron-ghold". Also, some of the lines are very stretched out, leaving a centimetre or so of space in between the lines. But these are minor complaints.

This New Testament is somewhat taller and wider than most pocket New Testaments. However, it is also rather thin. Also, the fact that the pages are larger makes the text easier to read, since the columns are not way too small. The book fits easily into khaki pockets. It fits into jeans pockets a bit snugly, so that I am always worried about damaging the edges. Since this is an inexpensive edition, I do not mind that the edges get a little worn. The binding is of course glued, not sewn.

A couple minor printer's glitches got into the edition. The book titles are in all caps at the top of the page (for example, "PHILIPPIANS 3, 4") except for the gospel of John (for example, "John 11, 12"). Sometimes the capitalization in section titles is inconsistent: instead of every major word being capitalized, only the first word is. The verse number 1 is added, for some reason, to the beginning of every chapter. The small caps in the word "LORD" are sometimes larger, sometimes smaller. The translation's occasional brackets are omitted from the New Testament, but not the Psalms. (I list these minor glitches mostly for humorous reasons, but they have little effect on the overall product.)

I spent a lot of time trying to find a good quality small and easily carriable New Testament. I bought two others that didn't work out. I am very, very pleased with this particular one. My main concern was readability of the type as I am in my mid-fifties and need glasses to read. The other two I bought were really difficult to read. This one however is PERFECT! Exactly what I wanted and I am glad I found it. After buying the other two online and being disappointed, I got this one at a local bookstore because I wanted to be sure I could read the type. So if you are looking for readability this is what you want.

The title says it all. Great carry bible. Easily slips into a pocket. NIV is a great translation.

This is one of those bibles you just want to carry with you wherever you go. It's compact, dense, light and has everything you want in a New Testament NIV bible. Note: Psalms and Proverbs are included so that's a plus.

I teach CCD and found this the perfect gift for young believers and new believers. Because people naturally start at the beginning of any book, handing a full Bible to a young or new believer usually just ends up ensuring they will NEVER read the Bible. With a pocket New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs in such an immensely readable and accurate translation, they begin with Jesus and end with the prayers Jesus Himself prayed.

If you want to introduce anyone, and I mean anyone, to the joys and peace of the Christian faith, this product is where I recommend you start.
