I think every young child should have his or her own collection of nursery rhymes, and if you are searching for one for your child, stop looking and buy this one. All the classics are here, carefully indexed in the back. There are over 60, ranging from Baa Baa Black Sheep to Wee Willie Winkie. They are artfully arranged and accompanied by some of the most unique and beautiful illustrations you will ever see. Every character, plant, animal and accessory is handcrafted, giving the illustrations a fascinating texture and dimension. Dolls made of fabric are often wearing acorn caps, flower petal skirts and small hand sewn pj's and sweaters. Buttons adorn sofas, and small doilies portray snowflakes!
The creativity and imagination on display all but guarantee that this will be a book your child can return to again and again to not only learn these classic rhymes but marvel at the intricate photos. A HUGE recommend.

Our 4 year old daughter's favorite things are books. We probably have 1000's of children's books tucked throughout our house. This is the first Salley Mavor book we've bought and I have to say I couldn't be more pleased. It is the most beautiful book we own and to know that Salley actually crafted all of the little scenes for the Rhymes makes it that much more special. It's a magical thing to see somebody use their god given gift. This book is just pure inspiration for creativity.

I received this book as a gift in hopes it would be an inspiration for my felt work. Boy howdy is it ever. This book is beautifully detailed and a great addition to my creative library. It's a fabric artist's eye candy! Would make a great gift for any artist or designer of any age.

After reading this collection of nursery rhymes, illustrated by Salley Mavor I instantly flashed back to my childhood. This book is not only suitable for young children; it is also entertaining for adults. Mavor was very intricate with her style of illustrations. Each scene was embroidered and sewed onto the page then photographed. It took her almost a month to complete each scene! The classic nursery rhymes included in this book were very well selected, such as Baa Baa Black Sheep and Wee Willie Winkie. It's obvious the author tried to group similar rhymes together, but unfortunately the book does not flow well. Over all it was a good read, and I think it is important for children to know these classic nursery rhymes and pass them down to their children. The book A Pocket Full of Posies is not just a book, due to the elaborate illustrations it is a keep-sake.

Pure eye candy on every page. The author's sense of design and color, her creative use of felt, fibers and found objects, and her amazing technique all combine to make this a real treasure.
I collect children's books - vintage and new - and I can honestly say this is the most beautiful one I own. I can't imagine how long it must have taken her to create it.

I bought 3 of these. One for an adult friend who I knew would appreciate the clever needlework, one for a baby gift, and one just for me to enjoy. I just love Salley Mavor's work and enjoy having this book around for it's creativity and gentleness. She also has a current blog that explains how she did some of the settings. So I highly recommend this author and this book. Her other book is amazing too!

Nursery rhymes have captured the hearts of children everywhere for several generation and always bring about a sense of nostalgia when heard by adults. We all grew up with nursery rhymes and when the name Mother Goose is mentioned particular cherished rhymes will come to mind. From the more popular rhymes such as "Baa Baa Black Sheep", "Ring around the Roses", and "Twinkle, Twinkle little Star" to the more obscure such as "A Wise Old Owl" and "Little Tommy Tittlemouse" this book has them all. This collection of nursery rhymes were all handpicked by the author herself. Each rhyme is printed on elegantly detailed pages of scenery and characters that were all hand sown and stitched by Miss Sally Mavor. Some of the rhymes used also have verses that are not as well known. Although Sally Mavor has used a very common form of traditional literature as a subject for a child's book, she was able to reuse it and recreate it bringing to life these old heartwarming rhymes in her own unique way. This book is a bundle of fond memories all put together inside of cute hardcover binding and I recommend this to anyone who has children and wants to pass along that pleasant feeling of innocence.

This is a beautiful book of the more well known nursery rhymes, but what makes it special is the illustrations. We first checked it out of the library for a toddler in our family and she loved it. I immediately bought one on Amazon for her birthday and then another for a different person's toddler. What makes it special is the illustrations. On nice thick paper the illustrations are photos of colorful hand sewn felt dolls, animals and frilly details. To me it would be a present that would lean more towards a little girl, maybe I just think that since it was a girl I had the reading experience with. It is full of many colors, but a lot of pinks, reds and roses. This would be terrific for any kind of gift - birthdays, holidays, or any other special time. Highly recommended!
