I bought this when my son was 14 months old and it immediately became his favorite toy. Within a month he knew at least 10 of the animals and could point to them when I asked where they were. He even knows exactly where to place his favorite 4 animals when all of the pockets are empty. This toy has helped his dexterity too as he has learned how to slide the animals inside of the pockets. These soft animals are just the right size for little hands and at any point during the day our son can be found carrying 2 or 3 animals all around the house. They have even helped with nap and bedtime!! Putting him down for sleep was a dreaded event as he would always cry. I began to place the entire "book" in his crib, telling him to talk to each of his animals. He becomes so focused on taking them in and out of the book that he forgets about going to sleep and ultimately falls asleep within 15 minutes. When I go in to check on him he is always sound asleep with one still in his hands! I HIGHLY recommend this toy as it teaches colors, letters, animals and helps increase dexterity.

We've owned this toy for over 3 years. The manufacturer (Pockets of Learning) replaces missing pieces at no charge, not even shipping!

Pockets of Learning has some wonderful books, playsets & travel bags for kids! This one in particular is great for teaching the alphabet, animals, colors, dexterity, phonics & more! My daughter loves this & she's not even 2 years old yet! We work on pulling animals out of pockets & putting them back. We work on what sound each animal makes. Colors of each animal, colors of each letter, sound of each letter & of course the alphabet! Excellent teaching tool! Soft enough for even the youngest ones. Travels well. A great bonus is that Pockets of Learning replaces missing animals if you call the 800 number! The only drawback, in my opinion, is that the animals are kinda small & some are "posed" strangely to fit the pockets. "ABC Animal Train" would also be great for home schooling & daycare! Overall, I HIGHLY recommend all POL toys!

This product kept my 2-year-old busy during two 9 hour flights back and forth to Europe. She loves the animals and has learned all of their names. She is also using them for pretend play. The company replaces lost animals for free. So far, my daughter hasn't used it to learn the alphabet, but that may still come.

We love our Animal Train. We sing Old MacDonald Had a Farm and use all of the animals in alphabetical order. Some are a little hard to come up with sounds for (like newt, for example!!!) and some of the animals are hard to recognize, but still, this is a wonderful idea and a nice implementation of it.

This was a gift to my newborn boy, but my 2 1/2 year old adores it!
Pros:
1. helps teach letters (each animal has the letter that starts its name on its back)
2. compact, portable
3. cute!
4. animals good for other play (my daughter likes to pretend to "save" them when they are stuck in a tree, or have them ride in her "airplane" (shoe)... and much much more
5. OK for babies (although the animals are smallish, ~ 3inches tall, they never presented a choking hazard for my son -- who likes to chew them)
6. The animals machine wash well (see chewing note above :) )
Cons:
1. Lots of pieces to lose -- we lost the lion for quite a while, but he showed up behind the entertainment center
2. Some of the animals are not so recognizable -- I think "N" is a newt, but it's hard to tell.

Despite the few cons, this is probably my favorite toy that my kids have. Thus, 5 stars all around!

I bought this for my daughter when she was 1 1/2 years old last christmas. She loves it, (and so do I). She still pulls it out to play with. Amazingly enough, we have never lost an animal for more than a few weeks. Since there is a space for each animal, it is a great storage too. You are able to see if you have everything when it is put away. Which leads to another great part about this toy, my daughter LOVES to put all the animals back in their "garages" (as my daughter calls it). Very soon after we bought this, she was memorizing her letters and telling me what each animal was. Since they all have matching letters on the animals and their "garages" it helps the younger ones find out where each goes. I can't say enough good things about this. I hate to buy toys that get put in the toy box and never get pulled out again. But this one has definately kept her attention. When you put that with the educational opportunity, how can you resist it? It is cute! Oh and you know how you get tired of playing the same toys with your children? This one is fun for the adults too. I forgot to mention one of the most important details. There is a form you get with the toy to order more animals if you lose any.

I purchased this toy thinking it might be a fun and educational toy. I ended up sending

it back. It's hard to tell what animal they are. You can't tell what's what due to bad product design. My son did like pulling them out of the pockets. The toy would have been great if you could teach your child about the animals. I'm afraid it would only have confused my child when the animals don't look anything like what they are supposed to. I wish the product was better. It has a lot of potential.

I have two girls, ages 5 and 2. I had been searching for something "quiet" to take to church. This was a perfect solution and it keeps them occupied for at least 30 minutes at a time. They get it out at home, too and haven't gotten tired of it yet!

I bought this for my daughter at 17 months and she loves it. Not only is it beautiful, it's the best quiet time toy ever!!
