3.0 out of 5 stars Was OK August 19, 2013

His own podcast - entrepreneur on fire - is a podcast targeted at people seeking inspiration that yes they can leave their (presumably unfulfilling) day-jobs and become entrepreneurs with (presumably) free and exciting lives. Right in this book John tells us he started his podcast so people could listen to inspirational success stories (of winning entrepreneurs) while driving to and from work.

I think that's great - we all need inspiration (in one form or another), in all areas of life.

I just don't know if this "how to podcast" book should be based on a podcast of that nature. To say "Here's how to make money by podcasting about how to make money" is a little too circular for my liking. I would have liked to see case studies of non-inspirational, non-how-to-make-money podcasters who successfully used podcasting as a marketing channel to bring in tangible revenue. Tell me how a plumber used podcasting to get more homeowner-customers (or something like that). And if the plumber example doesn't work, tell me it won't work. Tell me what *kinds* of businesses should be using podcasting.

Not saying the podcast itself doesn't have it's place in the market. Clearly it does - tons of people love it and listen to John all the time. So good on ya John! I was just looking for something more substantial from this book about "how to podcast".

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quick read & helpful for IfSimply April 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to podcast.

A few highlights that I didn't know:
1. Launch with 3-5 podcasts
2. Have your next two to three months of shows done before launch (gives a buffer)
3. You have 8 weeks to hit the new and noteworthy list.

Items Missing from this book:
1. How to choose the right category to maximize exposure
2. How to name your podcast (Do you use your brand or use SEO optimized keywords)

All in all, well worth the read.

A few additional tips I have learned:
1. Launch 5 episodes to start (when someone subscribes, that is 5 downloads. That means 10 people = 50 downloads). Itunes uses downloads as a key indicator of success.
2. For the first 7 days, launch a podcast a day (after your first 5 on the first day). This helps people trust that you are going to be there for them. After the first week, you can ramp down to your normal schedule (i.e. once or twice a week).
3. Do not buy ratings on itunes (itunes gives higher rank to more active users. Fake accounts may hurt you. I didn't do this, but know folks who did)
4. Choose a category that has lower competition and use SEO fiendly keywords. This will help people find you in organic search.
5. Do a video podcast and also strip the audio out and do a separate audio podcast. This gives you twice the exposure!
-MEGATIP: Be sure to post the audio version in a separate category (that way you can rank in two charts and get more listeners).
6. Keep your podcast focused and consistent, but feel free to vary the format. You could do interviews every other week and just you talking on the off weeks.
7. Be sure you have some major differentiator. What makes your podcast different than the others in your category?

Hope this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars On my way! March 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I got this book about 2 weeks ago, and was not sure if Podcasting was the outlet I was looking for for my consulting business,
but after reading this book and following the steps to a "T", I have a great platform for my business and I am exciting to start producing great content that will attract clients and followers. I am not the type to do reviews normally, but in this case I got more value from the book than the Author got from the price I paid, so I thought I would let others know about this great work in an attempt to settle. Good luck Podcasters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get it Now! February 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I got Podcast Launch this afternoon and just finished reading it on my Kindle. I have enjoyed listening to Podcasts for the last couple of years and when I came upon Entrepreneur On Fire I was hooked on the daily podcast. Once I saw the opportunity to get Podcast Launch I put it on the Kindle and knew that I would not put it down until I reached 100%. It is going to be a tremendous resource for me and I will be reading it again and watch the videos.

John Lee Dumas has laid the path for success to get a Podcast up and running. If you ever thought about making your own Podcast DOWNLOAD NOW!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars some helpful info April 18, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My podcast is not about making some money but I was still able to get useful and focused information from this book. If your podcast is to be a money making program check this out. You will feel like it was written by a salesman but that is the nature of the business.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and to the point April 7, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was looking for basic tips to get my recordings into podcast form and this book explains that and then some. Never even considered how this could be used as a revenue generator but the author includes a very good explanation of how to do that as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely read this before launching your podcast! July 27, 2013

We are in the process of launching a business based around podcasting and reading this book prior to going live has been a huge asset. There are a number of open questions we had that this book made easy to figure out as well as helped organize our thoughts and plan. There are a number of great insights of what to do before going live to make your launch a success. It is a quick read (less than 2 hours) and there are a number of additional resources (video, links) the book references that I will be checking out.
