How to use the matte finish,
By
This review is from: Mod Podge CS11302 Original 16-Ounce Glue, Matte Finish (Kitchen)
I am a paper crafter (not scrapbooker) who uses Mod Podge by the gallon. This stuff can be used for adhesion, sealing, decoupage, and applying dimensional textures to a certain extent. After using Mod Podge for many years, the matte finish in the yellow bottle has become my favorite, although all Mod Podge products are great and come recommended by me. The trick is to know which finish of Mod Podge to use for your needs. As a paper crafter, I prefer the matte finish because it has the most durable and well textured finish for decoupage and sealing my paper projects. I prefer to use a sponge brush to apply this to my crafts. The glossy and satin formulas can leave sealed projects just ever so slightly tacky to the touch once completely dry. If I use the glossy or satin finish to coat, say, a decoupaged notebook - after letting the finish dry completely I could still stack finished notebooks to store them and they might stick together. So I wouldn't use those formulas for projects that need more durability and protection. (For another example, I'll chose matte when I decoupage a surface of furniture, as it might get a lot of wear and items set upon it each day. But for an art project that will merely hang on the wall I'm more likely to chose the glossy or satin.) The matte finish has preformed the best for my decoupage projects. That said, you can always use a clear acrylic spray finish on top of your mod podge to get rid of any remaining "tackiness" no matter which formula you might use. The matte finish, obviously, has a dull non-shiny appearance once dry. If you would like a shiny finish, choose the gloss Mod Podge finish in the classic red bottle. Then there is the satin finish in the orange (or purple for hard coat) bottle, which has a slight haze in it's finish and will thus show brush strokes and scratches less often than matte & gloss. Of course there are also several other Mod Podge products now on the market, as the crafting industry is booming these days and they are broadening their spectrum of products, which is wonderful for us crafters! I recommend any of their formulas, honestly, just research which one best suits your project before purchasing.

A Classic,

What can I say? Mod Podge is the classic crafting glue, and it's easy to see why. It spreads evenly, dries quickly, and has great sticking power. This is very handy stuff to have around, and works for a wide variety of craft projects. It dries clear, so can be used as a sealant as well as glue.

I use Mod Podge on everything! I've been a crafty gal since I was little, and when I discovered Mod Podge it was all over. With every possible finish, the options are endless. I use the Matte finish when I'm doing collages on canvas. It doesn't stand out as much against the paint that way. If I want a finished effect, I'd use the glossy.

I am an avid crafter and absolutely love Mod Podge! The Matte finish comes out clear and is able to give a light gloss to paper projects. I use it for collaging as it also works as a glue. All in all, this is definitely a one in all! Corny but so true!

We had 3 puzzles to glue and seal. As we were the first timers with the puzzles, we had no idea what to use. Then, we took the advice from here and this Matt finish Mod Pudge was the winner.Wow, unless you get really lazy, like I did, pouring the glue, directly onto the puzzle and spread it, it will take about 10 min. or less to cover 500-1000 piece puzzles, then, without waiting further, I applied again another coat. And, I remembered to lift the puzzle to see any glue smeared unto the poster board. It did here and there and I gently roll down the board off the puzzle edges. That helped to separate the hardening puzzles from get stuck to the board. within 20-30min. I could even lift 500 piece puzzle(18x24in) After only 2-3 hours in the room temperature, it sets beautifully. And, I turned them over and gave a thin coat onto the back. The backside is often uncoated brown paper material, and they dried even faster. We still have 1/4 out of 16fl oz bottle, using 3 coats each(1 @ 20x27, 2 @ 18x24) The matt finish really gives it a more of a collection quality look than the glossy would. (getting the right size brush)__________________ The only thing I would suggest, is the sponge brush size, I bought two brushes of a differnt width. One is too big for the bottle opening. I would suggest getting a brush, smaller than 1.75inch(45mm) or you will have some mess around the bottle while working with it. They are only 30-65 cents. And, I was stingy enough(no, environmentally conscious)to wash it later to save it. And, the glues washes off really nice, leaving no residue. My verdict is, I am glad to find some quality product, that is very versatile and easy to work with. I will become a new fan of Mod Pudge- except that I am not keen on just an ugly cheap label design from early 70s. The local store priced it at $8.99 plus tax.

I use matte finish Mod Podge to seal all of my puzzles after they're completed. Nothing beats the finished look and ease of use of Mod Podge!

I just discovered Mod Podge from someone's blog posting (wish I could remember whose). Anyway, I bought it and used it to create a small corkboard with whole wine corks as a present for my sister. Mod Podge worked perfectly to attach the corks to the backing and dried clear so it didn't detract at all from the corkboard's aesthetic. I will definitely be using Mod Podge for my next arts and crafts project!

Matte is great for sealing canvas without sticking; dries fast in low humidity and mixes with acrylic paint for paint thinning without water.
