This review is from: The Poem Behind the Poem: Translating Asian Poetry (Paperback)
It's hard to translate from one European language to another. It could be said to be impossible to translate from an Asian language to English,
although we have some very good poetry that is produced by this means. This collection of excellent essays gives an idea of this difficulty. Each writer, a scholar in his or her own right, provides a little hint of some of the problems of translation and ways of resolving them. Anyone interested in Asian poetry should have this book in their collection. |
