Poem of the Man-god books are basically elaborate versions of the Gospels...and much more. I believe you are spiritually called to read these books. They "change" your life as Jesus and Mary reveal the "wonders" of their lives -- and their on-going relationship with us today. Words cannot describe what the five volumes of these books did for me on a spiritual level. They answered every question I had about faith -- and in a timely way so that stories and ideas were revealed to me as questions formed in my mind. Truly the greatest book ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars the greatest telling of the greatest story ever told, November 9, 2000

Wether you accept the divine visionary status of the author, or are even a christian or not, you will LOVE the telling of the gospels of the New Testament in the detailed personalized fashion used by Maria Valtorta. Even if taken as Biblical or historical fiction, it is a masterpiece of in depth characterization and story telling that stands on its own as unique, inspiring, and personal. If you would like a way to visit the times and people of Jesus Christ's life and mission in a most vibrant true to life manner, these are the books for you. It brings the gospels, the characters, the times and circumstances of Jesus' teachings into a perspective of personality and human depth you will appreciate long after you finish the books. Maria Valtorta's writing brings the relationships between the apostles and Jesus, each other, and his mother to a level of intimacy and approachability way beyond the dogmatic limits and formality possible in the Bible. They reveal the LIFE behind the scriptural verses. I am not a Christian myself, yet if i were, i'm sure i would get even more excited about these books than i already am. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a most satisfyingly uplifting read. And even more so for anyone seriously seeking to get to know Jesus, His associates and teachings better.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Book about Jesus' life besides the Holy Bible, March 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Poem of the Man-God ( 5 Volume Set ) (Hardcover)
Maria Valtorta: "THE MAN-GOD" The Book written by Maria Valtorta about the life of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ is very good for understanding the universal love of God to us. In this book there are many unknown situations of Jesus' life on earth including things I've never understood as I read them in the Bible. And I believe that it is the truth that Jesus gave those visions to his servant Maria Valtorta because I've found all important situations of the New Testamony here, too. But they are explained in a very detailed way through the words of Jesus. In my opinion this book "THE MAN-GOD" written by Maria Valtorta is to be seen with the same importance as the four evangelia written by Mattheo, Mark, Luke and John. If you will read it you are able to feel this love of god to us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Source for much of Mel Gibson's Passion, April 28, 2004

I first became familiar with this through William F. Buckley Jr's book "Nearer My God" where he quotes at length from volume 5 of this set in Chapter 8 of his book. While watching Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion" I could not help notice events in the movie that were not based on scripture but were similar to, or almost exactly, as described by Valtorta.

I have since ordered the set and in reading through them realize that this added picture of the life of Jesus is the essence of Valtorta's work. Whether understood as a mystical communication, inspiration of a thoughtful person, or literature of a thoughtful interpreter of the Gospels this is certainly facinating material. Be prepared for a lengthy sojourne. These are much longer than the Harry Potter series through book five in length, just to give you an idea.

The relationship the Vatican has had with these works is also an interesting issue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Valtorta, September 14, 2005
This review is from: The Poem of the Man-God ( 5 Volume Set ) (Hardcover)
These books are the basis for the opening in my heart to the love of Jesus. If you have ever been curious as to why people are in love with him, these books might help. You get to see Jesus in action. Trusting someone is easier if you can see them live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lost years of Christ - Not fiction but real and true!!!, November 6, 2007
This review is from: The Poem of the Man-God ( 5 Volume Set ) (Hardcover)
Whether you accept this depiction of Jesus' life as true or not, you cannot deny that the Holy Spirit is who speaks through these words. READ AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND. Your heart will burn similar to when reading the gospels. I've since found out who Mark the evangelist really is and why St. Peter call him son in one of his letters; simply because he adopts this poor orphan boy as explained by the Poem and whose original name is Jabez then Marjiam which Mary gives him to mean belonging to Mary, and later he changed it to Mark. I have also found out that Aurea Gala spoken of in the Poem as the 12 year old slave girl saved by Our Lord from the lusful clutches of a Roman soldier is no less than St. Aurelia Petronila who is burried in the front right altar at Saint Peter's in Rome. I have also found the name of Syntiche in the bible which is the name of the Greek woman in the Poem who is sent to Antioch with John of Endor. All of the Peom's characters are true persons!Additionally, there have been many ancient city names that were not known at the time of Valtortas writing and which have been Archiologically uncovered since then. Most importantly is the spirituality provided in the work that exceeds any other in boundless charity for men of this generation. ..

1.0 out of 5 stars It's not True & I have an Example, January 27, 2012

This review is from: The Poem of the Man-God ( 5 Volume Set ) (Hardcover)
The Valtorta revelations were increasing my faith and enabling me to joyously think of Jesus much more often throughout each day. Then I began reading revelations by Mary of Agreda. I came upon a discrepancy between the two of them concerning the visitation of the Magi so I realized that one of them had to be false. After praying for discernment and understanding, I have come to the conclusion that the Valtorta revelations are untrue. As an example, she said that the Magi arrived when Jesus was 9 to 12 months old and that he was then living in a house in Bethlehem. Mary of Agreda says that the Magi arrived before Jesus was presented in the Temple which is customarily done 40 days after a son is born. She says that Mary said that the holy family decided to stay in the humble cave / stable even after they could have moved elsewhere because that is where Jesus wanted to be born. It makes much more sense that He would want to be visited by the Magi in the humble cave to make His point that He came as a different kind of king. The devil is very clever and just slightly twists the truth to fool us into believing untruths about our wonderful God. Near the end of the Valtorta revelation about the Magi, she says that Jesus mentioned that sometimes He doesn't want to bless people because it is useless to do so when people destroy His blessing and curse Him so Mary has to take His hand and make Him bless people. That certainly doesn't coincide with the Jesus we know and love from the Bible. Untruths like these effect our perception of God so that we may not know His incredible love and goodness and mercy in all of its fullness. To check it out and read 800-1,000 pages online, go to Valtorta.org. You can select "Magi Adore the Messiah".
