Baden Powell's energy and passion shines again,
By
This review is from: Poema on Guitar (Audio CD)
Continuing a string of "on Guitar" albums, this is producer Joachim Berendt's follow on to 1966's groundbreaking "Tristeza on Guitar". Recorded in Germany in 1967, with an all-German cast, this is Baden Powell at his peak.
Although hard-core badenistas will likely miss his regular quartet of that period (made up of mostly brazilians), the german team is up to the task for the most part. Even when they veer slightly, it is still beautiful jazz. The controlled energy mustered by the ensemble on the title "Samba Triste" is worth the price of the album alone. |
