This review is from: Poems to Siva: The Hymns of the Tamil Saints (Hardcover)
Exceptional handbook for all those who are interested in Saiva Siddhantham. A well researched and translated works of the Saiva Nayanmars.A great tool for those who do not understand the Tamil language. A great gift for the western world. I strongly recommend this book to all Tamils who have settled outside Tamil Nadu, particularly those who do not have access to the Tamil language. I fervently hope and pray that more publications will be released in the near future, before the complete decline especially for the ones that are disadvantaged of not knowing Tamil. Great work! The author, Indira Viswanathan Peterson must be commended to bring the lofty teachings of Saivism to the western world. Archie Hirasen - South Africa

Tasmil saints,
This review is from: Poems to Siva: The Hymns of the Tamil Saints (Princeton Library of Asian Translations) (Hardcover)
The book is a useful introduction to the world of the Tamil saints of the eight-ninth century AD, whose poems are collected in a huge work known as Tevaram. However the author, instead of presenting a selection of hymns following the order of the Tevaram, has presented the translated strophes (not a single hymn is translated in its entirety) in chapters of her own creation ('The beautiful Lord', 'The Lord is sweet', and the like). In this way, it is not possible to appreciate a poet for what he is and what he says.
