Garcilasos poetry represents one of Spanish literatures highest peaks. With his verses, he adapted and triumphantly defined new poetic meters, as well as the artistic sensibility characteristic of the Renaissance. He also broke barriers with his work on such themes as platonic love, nature, and mythology.
Starting with him, Spanish poetry began to make its irreversible way towards modernity.
