It doesn't often happen that that you love a band after hearing their first release. I came across FOE's new video for Face to my Fist on a friend's Facebook link and I was immediately hooked. I downloaded the MP3 album and listened to it three times the first night. I love the hard edge mixed with strong melodies, driving riffs, interspersed guitar solos and mesmerizing vocals. Fall of Envy is clearly one of the most exciting finds so far this year.

This album has texture and depth and avoids getting pigeonholed into a predictable sound. Just when you think you may hear the same old song patterns, the tempo changes like in Fix Myself. It is interesting from first track to last, has good cohesion and keeps you coming back for more . It grabs you with a mix of styles like harder driving riffs and breakdowns in sort of a post-nu-metal-way, but offers more accessible elements like clean sung choruses as in For You and Falling Apart and hauntingly beautiful melodies like in Poetic Rage, The Inception and Far From Here. And for those hard rock enthusiasts there are some well placed, interesting solos.

This is a really great album that doesn't sound forced, over produced or fake. Download this record if you want hard rock that is uplifting and energetic with small hints of a darker vibe. Sounds like it may be a strange combination of moods, but it all gels into an album that is honest and avoids being typical.

Check out For You, it opens to a strong rhythmic riff, into a clean sung verse and a pretty chorus. I like the contrast of distorted guitars with well sung vocals. Just past the midway point is a mosh worthy breakdown, that I just bet is amazing live.
