5.0 out of 5 stars The Bomb!, November 24, 2009

This review is from: Poetically Justified (Audio CD)
I went back and forth on whether to purchase this CD. Although all of the reviews were great, I didnt know if they were friends of his or if someone was just trying to get people to purchase the CD. After listening to it...I have to join the many reviewers who gave this CD 5 stars because it is definitely all that and then some!! Its not always you find artists that can produce hit CDs back to back, but this one might be better than his last!! Its funky, soulful, sexy, and rhythmic all wrapped up into one and leaves you wanting more. Marcus did his thing on this CD and the other artists that contributed to it just made it even better!! Im glad I stumbled upon this and Im glad that I purchased it. This was worth the $17...a great investment to add to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars this MJ can play...., June 7, 2009

On "poetically justified" Marcus Johnson once and for all proves with 14 TRACKS he's a jack of all trades: talented pianist, writer, producer and has a tight professional backup band. The CD has the obligatory smooth jazz reconfiguration of R&B hits. For me, the CD doesn't hit its stride until the 8th track-Stand By Me with 24 yr old Marcus Anderson demonstrating he deserves his own cd project. Ellicott City is the band throwing down, Sunday jam-session style and the next track Cherish the Journey is by far the melody that puts everything MJ is trying to interpret together and is the best on the project. Hopefully that "other MJ in London" doesn't hear "This Place Hotel" (LOL) and Maysa and Miles Jaye close out with tracks that you should probably skip to FIRST they're that good...Hold On and Heaven. You will honestly find yourself downloading so many mp3's you might as well buy the whole cd.

COMPLETELY OFF THE CHART. This should be rated 20 plus stars, really. # 10 (Cherish the Journey) I have just about worn that song out. The entire c.d is nice. This man's creativity is amazing. It is well worth buying!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus you get a bonus of Maysa. The keyboard on #1 (Chillaxin) just takes your breath away.

5.0 out of 5 stars MJ finally does it, June 16, 2009
This review is from: Poetically Justified (Audio CD)
Poetically Justified is probably one of MJ's best albums to date. I lve me some "Lessons in Love" but I think this one has that flow. I am a huge Maysa fan and I love her voice mixed with MJ's pianistic talents. Miles Jaye suprised me with his voice. This deserves a "That's whats up"

5.0 out of 5 stars Poetically Correct!!, June 12, 2009
This review is from: Poetically Justified (Audio CD)
First of all, I gave this 5 stars because I couldn't give it 10! This is by far MJ's best offering of musical artistry (and I go all the way back to "Lessons In Love")! MJ just keeps getting better with each album. MJ's musicianship is unparalleled, the keys have never sounded better! Then add in Maysa, Miles Jaye, Najee, a little David Dyson and Phillip Martin! I didn't mention any favorite tracks because they are all excellent! You won't be skipping a single track on this disc! This is true Neck Factor music!...dlm

This review is from: Poetically Justified (Audio CD)
POETICALLY SPEAKING MARCUS HAS DEFINITELY JUSTIFIED HIS PURPOSE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY ESPECIALLY WITH THIS NEW RELEASE, WHICH HAS ADDED SOME NEW YORK & WORLD WIDE LISTENER APPEAL WITH TRACKS LIKE "CHILLAXIN"
AND FEATURED SULTRY VOCALISM OF MAYSA ON "MASTER OF MY HEART". KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK MARCUS WITH THE THREE KEYS MUSIC CAMP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Classic, June 2, 2009
Another classic from MJ. This is the perfect follow-up to MJ's wonderful album "FLO Chill," from the critically acclaimed "FLO Series." "Poetically Justified" is a relaxing mix of romantic jams, soulful vocals, and upbeat tracks with that DC Bounce MJ is famous for. MJ's keyboard playing shines. Favorite tracks are 3-"I See You" and 12-"Used To Love You" as explained below.

Track by track reviews:

1. Chillaxin - (featuring Freddy "Boom Boom" Moses/Marcus Johnson) - 4:28 - Unique rhythms open the album with this mid tempo jam.

2. Capice - (featuring Lorree Slye/Marcus Johnson/Miles Jaye/Stanley Cooper/Deborah Bond) - 4:46 - Features some smooth & deep male vocals.

3. I See You - (featuring Marcus Anderson/Boyd/Terry "20" Poindexter/Marcus Johnson/Najee) - 3:25 - MJ's first track ever with the vocoder vibe. 2nd favorite track on the album. Najee shows why he's a legend.

4. Master of My Heart - (featuring Robbie McDonald/Marcus Johnson/Maysa) - 3:41 - Unique and soulful; Maysa shines.

5. Danni's Song - (featuring Steven Perkins/Duane Thomas/David Dyson/Marcus Johnson/Stanley Cooper/Bryan Mills) - 5:58 - Funky DC bounce inspired instrumental.

6. Say Yes - (featuring Deven (D Monet) Boyd/Terry "20" Poindexter/Marcus Johnson) - 4:45 - MJ's remix of the Jill Scott classic.

7. In the Moment - (featuring Terry "20" Poindexter/Marcus Johnson) - 4:26 - Very smooth

8. Stand By Me - (featuring Marcus Anderson/David Dyson/Marcus Johnson) - 6:04 - Has that romantic vibe that MJ is known for.

9. Elliott City - (featuring Steven Perkins/Sean Geason/Duane Thomas/Marcus Johnson/Phillip Martin/Stanley Cooper) - 4:46 - Upbeat and fun like MJ's live shows.

10. Cherish The Journey - 5:48 - Another romantic piece with great piano playing.

11. This Place Hotel - (featuring Duane Thomas/David Dyson/Marcus Johnson/Stanley Cooper/Bryan Mills) - 5:25 - Another track with that DC bounce and live vibe.

12. Used To Love You - (featuring Deven (D Monet) Boyd/Terry "20" Poindexter/Marcus Johnson/Kanye O. West/John Legend) - 3:28 - My favorite track on the album; a creative remix of John Legend and Kanye West's classic, but this time with killer piano playing and vocoder female vocals.

13. Hold On - (featuring Robbie McDonald/Marcus Johnson/Maysa) - 4:04 - The most modern track (closest to the vibe from FLO Chill) and the most radio friendly; again Maysa shines with her beautiful vocals.

14. Heaven - (featuring Lorree Slye/Marcus Johnson/Miles Jaye/Stanley Cooper/Deborah Bond) - 4:50 - Great way to end the album; an upbeat jam with deep male vocals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, April 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Poetically Justified (Audio CD)
This is my first Marcus Johnson CD. I heard the song This Place Hotel on Satillite TV and had to have it. All the tunes are uniquely modern yet classic, funky and filled with the Jazz sound that I love. You can tell Mr. Johnson has studied some of the greats and put his own spin on things. A very talented and learned musician. I look forward to my adding him to my collection.
