Book Description

Interactive multimedia for literature courses has arrived! This is the first CD-ROM to cover the formal components of poetry (rhyme, rhythm, line, and form), to define and illustrate concepts, to offer game-like activities, and to enable students to try their own hands at some of the techniques in the interactive studio.

By enabling students to hear each poem in the included anthology recited, in some cases by the author, and even to hear their own poetry, this groundbreaking teaching tool engages students with poetry, poetic language, and poets at a level instructors will find truly inspirational.

About the Author

Jocelyn Camp is Professor of English at Kingsborough Community College of the City University of New York where she has been teaching courses in composition, developmental reading and writing, and literature, including Introduction to Poetry and Literature and Film, for more than twenty years. She and colleague Howard Nimchinksy have received several grants over the last ten years for their work developing interactive computer programs in developmental reading and poetry, including a Federal Government FIPSE grant, “Exploring Poetry Through Interactive Computer Programs” from 1993-1995. Professor Camp holds both an M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan. A transplanted Southerner, she lives in Manhattan with her husband (poet James Camp) and son.

Howard Nimchinsky has been Professor of English at Kingsborough Community College of the City University of New York for close to thirty years. For half that time, he served as chairman of the department and helped develop new courses in both composition and literature. With his colleague Jocelyn Camp, he pioneered in introducing computer technology into both the basic skills and literature curricula. The League for Innovation in the Community College, the City University, and the U.S. Department of Education have recognized their work in the form of grants to further their interactive computer programs. Professor Nimchinsky, a medievalist, holds a Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University. A native of Brooklyn, he lives there with his wife. His four children and seven grandchildren are divided between New York City and Houston.
