It is obvious that this book was written by experienced teachers. Not only have they considered what language skills are difficult for elementary students to understand, but they have also considered the limited time we as teachers have to cover such skills. Backman and Edelman make it "a point" to engage students with silly, but purposeful poems that will not only have kids smiling, but reading with better oral fluency, and understanding parts of speech. As a former primary teacher, I wish that this resource would have been around for my second graders to enjoy. As an intermediate teacher, I highly recommend this book to my own team as well as to teachers in the primary grades. Finally we have something to make our job as teachers of language and literacy a bit easier.
