Janeczko has created a beginner's guide to poetry for the middle to high school reader.
He offers suggestions, samples, ideas, and methods for creating and understanding verse.
His anthologies are marvelous collections of modern verse that will appeal to a broad range of students. Every time he publishes a book, it gets an award.

This review is from: Poetry From A to Z : A Guide for Young Writers (Hardcover)
This is a great book for young writers to use and a great book for teachers of young writer to use. The A to Z organization is fun, but not rigid. For example, some of the letters of the alphabet include an instruction on a type of poem: O contains an Opposites instruction and S contains a Shape Poem instructions. Many of the letters don't contain instructions, which is nice: if they all had instructions, the book could be tedious.
Each letter of the alphabet has at least one poem under it. K, for example, has "Kite" by Valerie Worth and "The Kite That Braved Old Orchard Beach," by X.J. Kennedy. A well-written, fun, easy-to-use, totally enjoyable book! |
