Automatic Remote Backup for your Computer and Mobile Devices – Reinvented
Backing up is like taking vitamins; we know it’s good for us, but it’s often too difficult to remember and maintain. Online cloud backup solutions are slow and expensive for large document or photo collections, and attaching a hard drive to your laptop or computer is not practical when you’re on the move. Set up Pogoplug in 60 seconds, point all your computers and mobile devices to back up to your Pogoplug, and never worry about backing up again.

Live Adventurously

Unlike other solutions, Pogoplug works to safeguard your computers and devices even when you take them away from your home or office. Live adventurously - trek through Tibet, climb Mount Whitney, or scuba in the Great Barrier Reef. You can rest easy knowing that your photos, documents and other important files are continuously and automatically copied to your Pogoplug even when you are on the go.

Access Your Backup from Anywhere
Missing a critical presentation because you dropped your laptop? Access and download it on the go from any web browser. Can’t fit all of your photos or videos on your phone or laptop? Leave them safely at home on your Pogoplug, but access them from anywhere.

Back up all of your family’s devices or even a small office to a Pogoplug. Simply add additional or larger drives as your storage needs grow – no fees, no limits.

Secure Sharing, Easy Sharing
Worried about publishing videos of your kids on Facebook or YouTube? Share large files instantly, securely and privately via links you email to trusted friends and family.

Or, publish to Facebook, Google+ or Twitter with a single click.

60-Second Setup
We challenge you to set up Pogoplug in 60 seconds or less. It’s as easy as connecting Pogoplug to your router, attaching any USB or SD storage, and entering an email address and password to create your account.

How It Works

1. Add storage.

2. Install Pogoplug's free companion software
to start continuos backup.

3. Keep your files safe at home and
access from anywhere.

This Pogoplug device is very easy to set up.
Asking people for more money is one thing, reducing feature from a product and then asking them for money to get similar features back is just bad service practice.

I admit that it's not what I expected nor what I wanted make sure to read the pogoplug forum to get the real problems with this.

I paid for the Pogo Plug device and hooked up a hard drive. Twice it has erased all the files on my hard drive. I am unable to edit any files on my pogo plug hard drive such as disabling collaboration. I was told by customer support this had to be done on the web browser, it still didn't work. Finally customer service told me I had to purchase their software to edit my hard drive files. I was never told this when I purchased the device. I was told I could make a one time purchase and have my own cloud for life and with no additional charges.

The web site is the most unfriendly user website I have ever encountered. Nothing is intuitive. They offer software and don't explain what the software will allow you to do. I can put files on my pogo plug hard drive and access them from my iPad and a web browser, but the main reason I did this was to allow my family access to my photos. Granted I can erase all the files from my pogo plug, but I can't edit permissions. What they really want you to do is buy cloud storage, buying the device is to suck you in to buy additional storage or software. Buyer beware.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Pogoplug created something of a stir when it was first introduced. But today, with cloud storage having become ubiquitous and inexpensive and applications like Dropbox and LiveDrive having taken the complexity out of network storage, does Pogoplug still have a place?

I would argue yes - to an extent.

The basics of Pogoplug aren't really simple, which is part of the reason so many people say bad things about Pogoplug.

The Pogoplug makes your computer storage device - an SD card, a flash drive, a hard drive, whatever you plug in that is supported - part of a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device. Once you've attached a storage device, you need to attach the Pogoplug to your local network by plugging the cable into your router.

Next you need to activate your Pogoplug, which is free, and - poof! - with the proper software, your Pogoplug device and its attached storage are now available to you from anywhere in the world. You can reach it from any computer with a web browser, by using paid software from Pogoplug or with your Apple or Android device using free software.

Pogoplug provides dedicated feature to backup the contents of your computer or just your music, pictures and videos. Rudimentary players are included in the Pogoplug software. You can also opt to share your files with other people.

Does it work. Yes. Does it work well? Aha! Here's why so many people speak ill of Pogoplug: there are a whole bunch of variables far outside Pogoplug's or your control. I might have speedy transfers - and you won't. The amount of bandwidth available is a huge factor - sizeable uploads and downloads could take days. Or just a few minutes.

The entire pogo plug backup system is workless and unreliable. Just read the comments on Pogoplug's own web forum. There is nothing but questions like "when is this going to be fixed" and the like.

But the good news is that this little box runs Linux and it is the cheapest Linux computer you can buy. You can repurpose the box as a very light weight server for all kinds for uses. It uses the ARM CPU and I've re-flashed it with a different Linux distribution. I paid $18 for the box and I think got a fair deal.

Just don't buy this for it's intended purpose

I use iOS devices and my wife uses Android devices. Pogo plug allows me to consolidate all pictures from all of our devices to NAS.
New Cloud sync in iOS now uploads to the same directory as pogo plugs upload directory for Android devices.

Downside is that in order to make above configuration you need to buy pogo plug premium software for another $29. This software should have been included. Free software provided by pogo plug is crap and will not do much.

So as not so many people know these were discontinued due to (most likely) lack of popularity HOWEVER you can hack these to run archlinux, they have 800mhz(Marvel arm v5) cpu/128mb ram/ 10/10/1000 Ethernet Perfect for a dirt cheap cluster I currently have 4 and bought 3 more I have one that serves media to my tv, downloads movies, serves live tv via tvheadend and the rest are dedicated to a small cluster that is growing out of control due to the price drop lol I use the cluster for my cpu intensive tasks e.g transcoding media, bitcoin mining etc. I have even used the cluster to compile x86_x64 Linux kernels (proper toolchain req.) just an idea for the nerds out their buying these it would make a great compile cluster or hell just a high-end toy for dirt cheap :P 6x800mhz single cores does some damage but imagine 20? 30? lol every spare 10 buck I have ima throw at a pogoplug mobile :P

I got Pogoplug Mobile even though I was already using the Pogoplug (pink version) because I wanted the new feature that this one added: the automatic upload that allows Pogoplug to mirror the camera rolls on my family's two iPhones. To my delight, the feature works just as promised. The camera backup upload works anywhere over wi-fi or 3G (the 3G can be turned off for data economy). This means peace of mind and easy sharing of photos when travelling. I have remote wipe installed on my iPhone to protect sensitive data in case my phone is ever lost. But if I have to use the wipe feature I now no longer have to lose all my vacation photos. They are backed up "automagically". Travel photos and videos are also available for sharing with friends even while I am still on vacation! I agree with users who say that the GUI is still clunky, but as an early adopter, I have experienced the good tech support others refer to, and I have seen the interface continue to improve over time. The device is the size of a hockey puck, stays cool without a fan, and has negligible power drain so I can leave it on all the time.

Tiny, silent, and low power
Automatic camera roll backup
File streaming of music, videos, and photos to my iPhone anywhere I have internet
Sharing vacation photos (and other files) with others can be remotely configured
Provides automatic mirroring backup of desktop computer hard drive = peace of mind
Can set up folders for others to upload into, creating a group photo repository

Still somewhat clunky user interface
Need to use other software to convert some kinds of video for streaming
