4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, excellent photographer!

Bruno Poinsard might not be a name on the forefront of the nude photographer world yet, but if this book is any indication of what's to come you can bet that he's going to be.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some Excellent Portrait Shots, But Not The Book It's Made Out To Be
The location shots are fair at best and in most cases not anywhere you would long to see in person. This is disappointing since after several trips to the Hawaiian Islands and the US Virgin Island I know first hand there is much more dramatic scenery readily available. The subject matter as reveiwed earlier seems to focus on young girls which is both positive and...

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, excellent photographer!, January 18, 2007
This review is from: Poinsard: Tropical Blend (Hardcover)

Bruno Poinsard might not be a name on the forefront of the nude photographer world yet, but if this book is any indication of what's to come you can bet that he's going to be.

Starting from the great cover shot and continuing through almost every page inside, this collection shows off perfect shots one right after another like a machine gun. This work is clearly heavily fashion influenced and is very contemporary: this work is typical in the sense that you can see pictures like these in many top-end fashion rags, but here you have the added bonus of nudity. That typicalness is the one short coming in this collection, but there are indications that this guy is making his own mark on the subject and if that aspect grows he could be the next Andreas Bitesnich. This is an excellent book, extremely well laid-out, the quality of the paper and the printing are excellent, the size is big and bold (nice!), and the book feels like quality. I'd have liked to see more pages. But 140 isn't too bad.

So great photography, great production quality, and let's mention the subjects. His choices in models are excellent. All these beautiful, youthful fashion girls with waif-like bodies. Very nice.

So why the 4 Stars and not 5? As I mentioned the work is typical of it's genre. There are a lot of photographers whose work is also excellent and also looks a lot like this. That said, Poinsard clearly has >>something<< that is "him" and I'd like to see him define that further in his next book. Also the price could be a bit lower considering there are just 140 pages in this book. Not highly overpriced, but a bit too expensive for this size. Those two factors are enough to take away one star.

But this is still a great book and well worth having. You won't regret this purchase if you like trendy-sexy-cool photography of beautiful girls.

I was impressed with the high quality of the photos and the design of the book. The photos on odd and even pages have a matching color or shape that is pleasing to the eye and creates a thread for the eye to follow. The photographs of the female body are tasteful and beautiful.

So, now I put his book on my bed side table, which I can flip it after work or beside rest. This is one of the best on my collection..!! Don't miss it..!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Equatorial Eroticism, January 21, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Poinsard: Tropical Blend (Hardcover)
Crystal clear waters, deep blue skies, sunny beaches and lush vegetation form the backdrop for Tropical Blend, a collection of photographs which are sensual, not only in the traditional (and expected) eroticism inherent in the subject matter—beautiful young women relaxing nude and semi-nude in classic visions of tropical paradise—but also in the quality of the images, which make the clinging weight of the humid air, the grit of the beach sand, the cool caress of damp fabric, the salty tang of the ocean spray palpable and real.

True to the title, the book is a blend. While the lion's share of the photographs are exquisitely realized nudes and semi-nudes, the oft-overlooked but essential trappings of the tropical fantasy Poinsard is constructing are also given their due. The brilliantly hued throat of an exotic flower which instantly fills up your head with its fragrance, the glistening body of a freshly opened oyster that you easily imagine slithering delightfully across your tongue—it is these details and their interplay with the remainder of the images in form, color, and metaphor which elevate Poinsard's book from the merely slick to the polished.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tropical Nudes, December 16, 2008
This review is from: Poinsard: Tropical Blend (Hardcover)
Working out of Paris, France, Bruno Poinsard is a rising star in the world of fashion photography. Tropical Blend is his first book. And it's a fantastic introduction to his work, especially his beauty photography and nudes. It features a wide and breathtaking variety of models from the fashion world, generally set about in lush, tropical settings. If lovely, lithesome, naked beauties, taken from the pages of magazines such as Vogue, Harpers, and Glamour are your thing, then this is your book. And together with Poinsard's superb photography and creative composition, this is one fantastic publication for lovers of the female form.

The location shots are fair at best and in most cases not anywhere you would long to see in person. This is disappointing since after several trips to the Hawaiian Islands and the US Virgin Island I know first hand there is much more dramatic scenery readily available. The subject matter as reveiwed earlier seems to focus on young girls which is both positive and negative. The portraits are very sensuous and I found myself wishing the entire book was filled with portrait images alone. On the other hand the full and partial body shots seemed like a waste due to the skinny models and ho-hum scenery. The photographer does have talent and I would really look forward to seeing more of his portrait work in the future. All in all though if you are looking for a book featuring fully grown women in lush tropical settings, you should keep on looking.
