5.0 out of 5 stars my favorite album of all time ever anywhere, July 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Point! (1971 Television Animated Film) (Audio CD)
My step father played this album for my brother and myself when i was too young to remember what it was or know what it meant... i just knew i liked it...then i forgot it for twenty years... then, while at work, i was speaking with a customer about something when he commented,"...kinda makes you feel like oblio, don't it?" I had a joyful coronary as all these memories slammed through my mind... he brought me a taped copy of it and i re-fell in love... now i am a dj(hardcore dance music) and, believe it or not, i use this record for samples. I believe that this record, which seems to be aimed at the kids, was the thing that helped keep me together while i was being ostracized from society... i really DID relate to oblio and i think any kid who doesn't fit the society mold would benefit from knowing this lovely record... you know... the record may have helped me shirk the mold... i will play it for my kids while still in the womb... i DO play it for my kids out on the floor... the dance floor,...and noone ever complains... love it. all is love... Fu

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely, positively amazing!, January 20, 2000
This review is from: The Point! (1971 Television Animated Film) (Audio CD)
My parents made me come in the living room and watch this on PBS. At first I had decided that I was going to hate it because it interrupted my free time and it was on public television, but after the first song rolled I was completely entranced. I was ten years old at the time and am not much older now--18. I found it really frustrating that no one else my own age had ever even heard of it. I finally met someone that had this cd and was so excited that I finally had a friend that had shared my experience and was as influenced by it as I was. Not only that, but I found out that it was on cd, and thanks to amazon I will soon have it in my possesion, as will my sister, it being her favorite childhood memory too! So, even if you have never seen the animated version or even heard the music it's definately a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the world's best records, August 21, 2002

This review is from: The Point! (1971 Television Animated Film) (Audio CD)
This was the first album I ever bought for myself as a child. I was 8. I don't know exactly how many times I've bought the vinyl since, and played it till it warped, or given it away and bought two more. Then cassettes, now CDs.

I went on to become a musician, scolarships and a degree in the subject. I now make music that I feel is entire infuenced by this initial spark, and I'm devoted to making works as intelligent for young minds.

Harry Nilsson, You are sorely missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aint Nothin Pointless About this Gig, March 5, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Point! (1971 Television Animated Film) (Audio CD)
A indisputably classic tale to charm children and adults alike, and most especially those of us who have never really grown up. (However, my 16 year old son may be immune to its charms). My daddy had a recording of The Point, which I've looked and looked for, but Amazon the Wonderful helped me locate a CD version and I'm just as charmed as I was 30 years ago! Told in story and song, follow the adventures of the pointless Oblio and his dog Arrow, as they are banished from the Land of Point to the Pointless Forest and learn a lot about life on the journey. Even without the story, Think About Your Troubles is an inspired and gentle reminder to put all things into perspective.

4.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for the Story. 3 for the Music., August 16, 2000
By
This review is from: The Point! (1971 Television Animated Film) (Audio CD)
This CD is really REALLY hard to find anywhere but online. The story is so good! I love Harry's voice as the narrator; it has a soothing yet captivating tone that is ideal for storytelling. The music is only pretty good. A few of the songs are excellent, but the rest are just OK. Adults listening to The Point! will think about what really is "pointless" and what is not; and about how as the man in the Pointless Forest says, "a point in every direction is the same as having no point at all." Kids will hear a heartwarming story about a boy who doesn't fit in (and his lovable dog!) who is able to show everyone that it's okay (and in fact sometimes good) to be different.

5.0 out of 5 stars Found at last, May 23, 2001

This review is from: The Point! (1971 Television Animated Film) (Audio CD)
Yes, my Dad still owns the vinyl of The Point, but we no longer have anything to play it on. The other day I was humming some songs and thought, "I wonder if Amazon.com could score me a CD" Sure enough it could! It's every bit as good as I remember, and now I understand it at a much deeper level. By the way, wandering through the children's video section in the Bexley, Ohio, library, I even found a copy of the illustrious animated version narrated by Ringo Starr! Watching it made everything in the record much clearer. The Rock Man has about a 2-3 minute soliloquy that's way deep. I'd never known as a child that he symbolizes the "well rounded" individual in contrast to all the pointed people. Maybe one day Amazon will offer it. But in the meantime, buy this album!

I have loved the point for as long as I can remember. Its themes are powerful and subtly brilliant and the music is perfect. Listening to this really takes you into another world. I was shocked by the difference in sound quality between the CD and the record. The digital version has revitalized this album. A must-have!

I may only be 14, but I have been listening to and watching this movie since before I could walk. I love the songs, the message, and the movie. I now own the album. I highly reccomend this album to anyone, it's message and lighthearted fun entertained me as a toddler, as well as now. It has also been a favorite of my parents for decades. I am currently looking for a replacement of the film that I watched so often it broke. If you know where I could look, I would really appreciate it if you contacted me at saucerville@hotmail.com thanks so much and enjoy this unique and entertaining masterpiece!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rite of Passage for Generation X, December 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Point! (1971 Television Animated Film) (Audio CD)
When I was born in 1975, a friend of my father gave a vinyl recording of "The Point" to him as a gift for me. Over the years I listened to that record (and scratched it up, as kids do) probably more than any other recording from childhood. Today I am a jazz pianist and music teacher and I still really dig this stuff. The melodies are memorable and entertaining, and the arrangements are really artful. The album overall has a whimsical Sgt. Pepperesque quality to it, and the social commentary is hillarious. This recording is truly enjoyable for any age and any level of musical knowledge. It has been with me for over twenty years and I still enjoy it. I am so glad that is available on CD.
