5.0 out of 5 stars Anthony Hamilton - The Point Of It All
This is Anthony Hamilton at his best. Comin' From Where I'm From was a phenominal, dark, gritty, soulful album. I like Anthony Hamilton and I also admire him for daring to be different in all he does regarding his music career from his look to his sound. I can recall an interviewer asking him why he dresses the way he does and why he doesn't always shave and he said that he was just being himself. "The Point of it All" is, no doubt, a quality LP. Hamilton gives us 59 minutes and 14 tracks of great music.

This album starts off smoothly and very strong: "Cool" is one of the album's strongest tracks. Hamilton knows the components of a good song and he gives them to us here. He sounds great, the lyrics are nice and the melody will have you bobbing your head. "The News" is another fine moment. Lots of bass, piano and percussion is on this track and so is a meaningful message. Hamilton loses a bit of steam in the middle of the album, but it's still alright. "Fallin' in Love" and "Soul's on Fire" are two of this LP's weakest moments. He definitely redeems himself by album's end with tracks like "Her Heart" and the title track. The title track has replay value because of the sensual mood it puts the listener in and the amazing hook.

If you are looking for good music, Anthony Hamilton is your man. He has such a pleasant singing voice and knows how to compose music. Believe me, he is sure to please.

Mikeisha's Top 5

1. "The Point of it All"
2. "Please Stay"
3. "Her Heart"
4. "The News"
5. "Cool"

5.0 out of 5 stars Anthony Hamilton - The Point Of It All, December 20, 2008

This is Anthony Hamilton at his best. Comin' From Where I'm From was a phenominal, dark, gritty, soulful album. Ain't Nobody Worryin' had a more bright image, with a little more soul, this album was a happy album compared to his previous album. And now, two years after Ain't Nobody Worryin', and about a years worth of delays, and title changes, we finally get The Point Of It All. And I was still unsure who i was going to give my R&B album of the year title too at the start of the week, but once i got this album, it stole the title. The Point Of It All is easily Anthony's most radio friendly album yet. While most of the album is still to soulful for radio, it's his most "synthesized" or produced album by far yet. His first two albums had alot of that live instramentation, but this album has alot more "beats" than his first two did. And thats why I think that this will be his biggest album yet, because this album is coming off the buzz that "Do You Feel Me" from American Gangster created for Anthony Hamilton. That song got him alot more fans, and i think this is his best album yet, so i think this will likely be his highest selling album in its first week. Anthony has the best voice in R&B/Soul music, period. You know instantly when you here his voice, that its Anthony Hamilton. He's got a gritty soul voice, but he also has a very rich, and a very high range. And he really shows it on this album. The single "Cool" is just a classic Anthony Hamilton track. Its a mid tempo, feel good track about love, with a comical, but sincere appearance from David Banner. And then on the mid tempo, smoothly produced ballad by Dre and Vidal, "Diamond In The Rough" is easily one of his best songs ever, if not his best song ever. And then "Please Stay" is a classic showing of a vintage, slow love song, theres one of these beauties on all of his albums. Another track that has seen some heavy rotation from me is a rare baby maker in the title track "The Point Of It All". He doesn't do many baby makers, but when he does, they are always classic. I have always liked Anthony Hamilton's music, and all of his albums are classics, so when i say this album is his best, it is extremely close. But this is easily his most polished and flashy album to date as far as production goes. It's always good to get some fresh Anthony Hamilton music right around the holidays lol R&B Album of the Year!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Instant Classic!, December 30, 2008
This review is from: The Point Of It All (Audio CD)
If someone can tell me a better R&B album this year, please let me know. Anthony Hamilton keeps surpassing the conventional boundaries of R&B. In a time when so much music (and some parts of the world) has lost its SOUL, this is some serious good music. I play keyboard and this album has me going back learning the chords...they're sick!!

Some of my favorite tracks in no particular order: Hard to Breathe, Souls on Fire, Diamond in the Rough, Cool, Her Heart, the Day we met, damnit pretty much the entire album. Thank you Mr. Hamilton for a modern classic!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Soul!!!, December 16, 2008

This review is from: The Point Of It All (Audio CD)
Anthony Hamilton's new CD "The point of it all" makes you feel you are back in the seventies. With an organic feel; real percussion, piano and organs, horns, lush harmonies, that rich sonorous baritone (capable of falsetto at the drop of a hat), and largely social conscious lyrics. It could almost be the soundtrack to some Blaxploitation movie.

Opener is "The news" with gently tinkling ivories and a look at life on the streets with Gaye-like harmonies and a spoken "News" segment. Very good! Lead-off single is the groovy "Cool". It features a rap by David Banner and a deep scratchy bassline. The gritty horn-peppered "Soul's on fire" is one of my favourites (much like "Pass me over" from "Ain't nobody worryin'").

Other standouts (in an outstanding album, mind you) are the Mayfield/Al Green-like ballad "Please stay", the spare and sultry title track "The point of it all", the bouncy retro Soul/Funk "Fallin' in love", the simply awesome two part "Prayin' for you/Superman" (first part is a bouncy Bluegrass-tinged Blues number with Gospel-style harmonies, and the final 2 minutes a slowed down organ driven Blues ballad), the tender ballad "Her heart" (with lyrics apologizing for neglecting his woman), the inspirational "Fine again" (with a Gospel feel), and the upbeat bonus track "She's gone".

A grower, but one that richly rewards the listener at the end. Classic soul!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank You, Mr Hamilton. This is pure, organic, genuine, meaningful, easy listening music., June 18, 2009

First Of All, I can't believe for the LIFE OF ME, why would someone give this a "THREE STAR" or less. Are you serious? Please, Please, Please name me one soulful Album "THIS YEAR" that is better? This brother's music is TIMELESS!

Real Music
Real Lyrics
Vocals - Well, need I say more?
Instrumentals - *sighs* Should I even go any further?

If you appreciate real music, then this is your guy
If you want predictable, transparent lyrics, empty songs, then he's not for you....Simply Put!

Simply put, I can be homeless, with no food to eat, clothes to wear
and I'll find a way to BUY HIS ALBUM

5.0 out of 5 stars "Sleeper" album of the year, June 9, 2009
This review is from: The Point Of It All (Audio CD)
Wow.. I enjoyed A. Hamilton's previous music. I loved his old skool soulful voice, his realness, and his ability to tell a story. He continues and improves on this album. I was MORE than impressed! Definitely worth buying. I would buy a few copies and give them as gifts, the recipient will Thank you. I got the cd in December and I'm still listening to it 6months later..its just that good. Don't sleep on this one. This is an album you can pop in & just let it play beginning to end. I love the whole thing, but if i had to choose a favorite.. it would be "Her Heart". This song touched me.... ill end the review on that note.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album....But not "Coming From Where Im From", December 20, 2008
This review is from: The Point Of It All (Audio CD)
As a BIG fan of all kind of music (mainly hip hop) i have been pissed off with the recent releases from big names such as Kayne West and even Ludacris....thus i told myself i will only buy RnB until a good hip hop album is release, and i remembered this one was coming out on the 16th. I am an owner of all of his previous releases and i loved every single one of them...so i knew i couldnt go wrong with this one (ie. with the single "Cool" ft. David Banner) Riding in my car at about 11pm i tend to vibe with music more thus i played it and rhode until i finished the CD and i must say i loved the CD. This is a heart felt album and although i still think "Coming From Where Im From is still his best....this one isnt far behind! If you have to get any CD get this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Songs - Anthony Keeps It Real M-M-M, June 21, 2009
This review is from: The Point Of It All (Audio CD)
Wow! I bought this CD for 2 songs, "The Point of It All" and "Cool". But, this CD is full of loving, thoughtful, soulful, meaningful and tender songs about love and life. "Diamond in the Rough" is a beautiful song. It had me in tears, Wow! Thank you Anthony! M-M-M. The songs on this CD are like reflections from the heart of a real Prince Charming riding to the rescue, one who's been through his own heartaches in life & knows how to keep it together! Refreshing & real, very real. This CD was worth every cent! Thank you, Anthony. Great work!

Note: I was prompted to write the review above only after listening to songs 1-4, but mostly because of "Diamond in the Rough" (song 4 of 14). But, now that I've listened to the whole CD it's still a 5+ star hit! Fallin in Love; Prayin for You/Superman; Her Heart; and Fine Again (especially in these times). A real man, a real artist, and real songs for real times. This CD is Gold! All the songs are Great!

3.0 out of 5 stars Anthony Hamilton...Point of It All, May 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Point Of It All (Audio CD)
I've listened to this cd a few times and I enjoyed it. I saw Anthony Hamilton in concert in Charlotte, NC and his performance was awesome! Surprisingly, I would say his vocals are better in live performances than on a cd. Overrall this is a cd worth purchasing.
