A PERFECT PRIMER FOR NOVITIATES, January 26, 2001

With so many CDs of Gregorian Chant now available, the surplus seems impenetrable. For the general collector, this Point release is an exceptional value, both monetarily and artistically. The all-male Slovakian Madrigalists, under Janez Bole, offer a bonafide ecclesiastical sound, beautifully spiritual and moving, in a setting that is incredibly intimate.The recording is first-rate in every way. For those of you who might be wondering just how to immerse yourselves in the timelessness of liturgical chant, this CD cannot be recommended strongly enough.
