The album that started it all...,
By "cyered6" (Abilene, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Point of Grace (Audio CD)
This is the 1993 debut from Point of Grace and in my opinion they have not yet matched it. True the other albums may have better vocals but the material on here is oh so muche better not saying that any of theirs is bad though. This is what broke them through with an astonishing record breaking six no. 1 hits and a gold certification. A true Christian music classic to be long remembered. The opener My personal favorites are the opener "I'll Be Believing" with it's light and happy feel with perfect vocals and "No More Pain" a beautiful song that really makes you think. This is their finest work and if they can equal it they'll be all the more incredible to me.

Solid debut from POG!!,

Well, this was the 2nd POG CD I got, even though it was their first release. After hearing how great "The Whole Truth" was, I wanted to get the debut. So, my cousins gave to me on my birthday. It is a very good CD. The first single, I'll Be Believing, is very good, giving listeners their first taste of their solid harmonies. Other highlights of the album are the a cappella intro to Faith Hope & Love, This Day, and Jesus Will Still Be There. Although this album could use more songs like Living the Legacy, with more guitars, it is very good, and no POG fan should be without it!

I Love It!,

This CD is awesome with great songs! I think the best ones on this CD are I'll Be Believing, Love Enough, One More Broken Heart, Living the Legacy, and No More Pain. Another personal favorite would have to be the last track, This Day, because we sang it for a choral concert once and it was beautiful. I would recommend this CD to anyone!

I love this CD. I got a year ago, and it's still one of my favorites. One of the best songs is "No More Pain." For those who don't know, Cindy Morgan and Stu Jones (Denise's) are singing in the choir.

Like Jackie Wagner said, when one listen to their music and their message, one HAS to fall in love with them. Specially, when they give the spirit a sense of how much God loves us.

Here are the girls' names: Heather Floyd, Denise Jones, Terry Jones, and Shelley Phillips. I have all four of their albums and I think it's all beautiful. The combination of music types make the album sound great!

These four girls have truly been blessed by GOD. I feel uplifted every time I listen to this or any of their other albums. My favorites are "One More Broken Heart", "Love Enough", "Living the Legacy", and "This Day". I am a big fan of POG and they are huge blessing in my life. I hope you will find them an inspiration, too.

I really love this girl band. This is their debut album. Although they ain't so appreciated I like 'em. The songs "I'll Be Believing", "No More Pain", and "Living the legacy" are my favorite songs from this album. The next two albums "The Whole Truth" and "Life Love & Other Mysteries" are even better.

Highly Underrated Group,

I had the pleasure to have Point Of Grace perform at our church just after this album debuted. They are highly underrated, and deserve much more attention than they receive. Their voices are phenomenal. They are smooth and powerful. They blow a lot of these other big name groups away. GOD is good!!!

This oddly named female band opened their Big Career with this eponymous 1993 release. It was of course not all that they would become, but it was an audacious start.
The tight harmonies and soaring soprano embellishment of the opening track, 'I'll Be Believing', served notice of what was to come. Both of these shape the Point of Grace signature. It was hard not to like this sound from the beginning. PoG have always made their unusual artistry sound easy although the standard they've set represents anything but a facile leap. The odds that this sound was to become a one-hit wonder were perhaps one-in-three a few months after the 1993 release of their debut. Yet the foursome, even through a change of personnel, have been an enduring phenomenon. This may be as much about the way in which they've preserved a certain genuine look and sound even while working within a very highly produced musical genre. But all of this is looking far ahead of this first disc. Back in 1993, the harmonies seemed astounding, as indeed they were. If any of these tracks hinted at the large sound that was to become associated--unlikely enough--with a girls' foursome, it is 'Living the Legacy'. It's march-esque, in-your-face rhythm combined with a truly worthy story line and sung at full pipery showed an early PoG listener that more interesting things were likely to be forthcoming. Thoughts of pan-flashing dissipated every so quietly. One could mount an argument that the following song, 'Jesus will still be there', sends out the same artistic promissory not by a very different route, although one must take care not to be misunderstood: the ladies' intent is no doubt more pastoral than professional. Yet it is fair to look from this distance at the artistic base from which their very spiritual labors were to be conducted, here at an early stage of construction. Arguably the most compelling piece is the final one, 'This Day'. Form and content merge exquisitely in a moving statement of our ephemeral, fragile, moment on this earth. A remarkable album at the beginning of an astonishing musical trajectory. |
