4.0 out of 5 stars Solid debut with some sweet riffs
I never was much of a Cold fan so this review should be helpful for others who come from the same view or maybe Cold fans who don't want to look at it like an extension of Cold. It took some spins to get used to Point of Origin before I started really getting into it. I'll start by saying the only problem I have with the CD. It's a little too short for my liking. I prefer...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots Of Talent + Lack Of Originality = Allele
A lot of people discovering Allele probably did so through ex-Cold guitarist Kelly Hayes, who is one of five talents in Allele (along with ex-Otep guitarist Lane Maverick). I'll admit, that's how I found them, and I was expecting something special from Allele. Well, did I get what I expected? Yes and no. See, Allele obviously have the talent to get things done. "Point Of...

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid debut with some sweet riffs, November 2, 2005
This review is from: Point of Origin (Audio CD)
I never was much of a Cold fan so this review should be helpful for others who come from the same view or maybe Cold fans who don't want to look at it like an extension of Cold. It took some spins to get used to Point of Origin before I started really getting into it. I'll start by saying the only problem I have with the CD. It's a little too short for my liking. I prefer a CD to have 11-13 tracks ranging from 45-50 minutes to make it last. Allele has 10 tracks(one hidden instrument to make it 11) but the problem is it's really only 38 some odd minutes. About 8 minutes of the 47 or so is blank space at the end of the tenth track Unknown. It serves to keep the 11th hidden so in reality the CD is only 38 minutes, which is too short.

That being said, what music is there works well. Some songs might run into each other a bit but there's some real stand out tracks. In particular, I love Unknown, Tightrope, Immune, and the Lies. The first single, Closer To Habit, is very catchy and also stands out. Unknown hits me hard because there's a sweet guitar solo near the end and the lyrics have some real meaning to me. Speaking of which, the lyrics in Point of Origin might seem a bit sad or depressing to start but they all seem to have a message of hope that comes by the end. This is another reason I like Allele, they don't have that "the world is doomed" type thing going on and have some meaningful bright lyrics. The guitar riffs by Kelly and Lane come off catchy and Wally Wood has some great vocals. It's hard to explain but he seems to have a unique voice at times while somehow managing to sound familiar.

Allele basically boils down to what I'd call a hard rock band. They fit in with other bands you've probably heard on the radio but the riffs and vocals keep them unique enough to catch your attention. I like to think of them as a cross between Breaking Benjamin and 10 Years or Dark New Day but you can see even I struggle to put my finger on it. Wally sings great melodies as well as screams at well placed times to fit in with today's music. If you are a hard rock fan or a fan of the bands I mentioned above I urge you to listen to the samples on here or go to their website([...]) and listen to their E-card. Hopefully with their next album they'll put together a longer list of songs and music with some slower songs as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars a decent debut, March 16, 2006
This review is from: Point of Origin (Audio CD)
I decided to basically go out on a limb here with this CD. I bought it without hearing any samples prior. The gorgeous cover art and the fact that it had Kelly from COLD (a band that i'm a huge fan of) playing guitars... I decided to give it a shot.

The album is good no doubt, but their lyrics at times seem to need some tweaking. I'd have to say Immune is my favorite of the bunch. COLD fans will have something to look forward to as far as guitar riffs go.

If you're looking for a new, refreshing rock band to get into.. this may be your ticket. A decent debut

this review may be a bit biased as i've been following the band since they started. I must say though i'm am not surprised one bit that this album is awesome, judging from their previous works and many live shows at freebirds (live shows are a must trust me!!). Great music, great band, all in all great album. A must buy for anyone who likes rock!!!!!!

I definitely think allele's point of origin is a must have for your cd collection. Rarely do I find a cd I can sit and listen to the whole cd through without getting bored with tracks or just not liking them... and this cd I popped into my cd player after getting it and was actually so anxious to hear every bit of it had to switch cd players 3 times between the car and home to hear the whole thing...normally I would just leave it in my car and wait to hear the rest on my next drive. The songs are not only lyrically charged but also instrumentally. It's a good cd to rock out to but also has some "slower" songs to humm along to as well. All in all....get the cd, it's worth the money and you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Words just can't describe..., October 27, 2005
This review is from: Point of Origin (Audio CD)
There is no way that I can write how I feel about this album. I can only describe it as passion. In every song on "Point of Origin" you can hear the care and emotion in every note. Some albums have only a few songs that have a chance at being a single for radio play, in my opinion, each and every song on Allele's album can hold it's own and be a radio single. I had goosebumps from the first song through the last. I have now had it for 2 days and it has played almost non stop. "Point of Origin" is a solid album and one that any fan of Rock music should add it to their collection. Allele has made a stellar album! Go and buy it today!!!!

Allele has been a band that I have been following for a couple years now. I have been anticipating the release of this cd for quite some time. I must say that I am not disappointed. Every song is awesome!! "A Different Someone" and "Unknown" are my favorites, though I find that "Closer To Habit" is constantly running through my head. I highly recommend this cd if you are a fan of Cold/Staind/Flaw. "Point Of Origin" will definately be hard to remove from my cd player, it is that good!! Thanks for a great cd Allele and CPR!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Awesome Debut, August 7, 2006
This review is from: Point of Origin (Audio CD)
Many people have been hating on this band, and i cant understand why. First of all. their label, Corprorate Punishment, has a habit of signing VERY talented new bands, and Allele also has in it's ranks ex-members of Cold and Otep, talented musicians once again.
Musically, the band is like any other hard rock band out their, but in this day and age where most bands anger is fake or manufactured, you can actually feel the rage in this singer's voice, and tell that it's for real. Like Five.Bolt.Main, thy lyrics for a lot of the songs, especially "A Different Someone" helped me through a really hard time in my life. So, stop hating on bands that you dont understand, and go back to listening to the pop-emo-flavor of the week bands your all so into these days, and leave the truly talented bands alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great-sounding rock band., February 18, 2006
This review is from: Point of Origin (Audio CD)
Apparently the lead guitarist was in the band Cold before this, which might explain why it sounds a little bit like Cold, but on steroids. Anyway, lead singer has a fantastic voice and I have a feeling this is the direction rock music is going to be taking in the future. The single "Closer To Habit" seems like a bomb just waiting to go off on all the radio stations and music channels..just a prediction. Check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD purchase I've made in a long time, February 5, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Point of Origin (Audio CD)
Allele is a band that I had never heard of 2 weeks ago, but after talking to my friend Tony who is in the band Souls Harbor (CPR labelmates of Allele) he told me to check them out. The first song I heard was the first single, "Closer to Habit". This song had me hooked after the first listen and I immediately went and bought the CD. All I can say is that this is an amazing CD. Standout tracks include "Fake" which gets the CD rockin' right from the beginning and "Unknown" which is my personal favorite. It's lyrics hold a special meaning to me and I think it can relate to many other people out there.

Bottom line, this could quite possibly be the best release of the year so do yourself a favor and buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best, October 30, 2005
This review is from: Point of Origin (Audio CD)
ALLELE's sound is exciting and their new album POINT OF ORIGIN is definitely one to buy! The songs are well written, the tunes staying in your head long after the CD has been played. ALLELE is The band to watch; a great future is ahead for them. Their live shows are high energy and well worth seeing when they play in a town near you. All of the band members are extremely talented, excellent showmen, and approachable. [...]. Visit the Forum, sign up and become part of the ALLELE family.
