4.0 out of 5 stars Worthy Mylene, but not a classic
Greetings. This album has some sublime moments, but it is far from her finest work. THAT masterpiece would be the incomparable magnum opus from 1999, __Innamoramento__. This collection does contain 2 songs that are equal to her very, very finest moments, along the lines of Ainsi Soit-Je, Je te Rends ton Amour, Libertine, Je T'aime Melancolie, Regrets, and L'Amour...

2.0 out of 5 stars ...It's all going downhill ! (from a disappointed admirer)
It is great to see all the support for Mylène's latest album. I have been a fan of Boutonnat/Farmer since they started and absolutely love most of what they do.

Unfortunately, I struggled to appreciate Avant que l'ombre where Mylène high pitch singing is weak and hollow and was accompanied by quite uninspired music. Shame as I want to like...

Greetings. This album has some sublime moments, but it is far from her finest work. THAT masterpiece would be the incomparable magnum opus from 1999, __Innamoramento__. This collection does contain 2 songs that are equal to her very, very finest moments, along the lines of Ainsi Soit-Je, Je te Rends ton Amour, Libertine, Je T'aime Melancolie, Regrets, and L'Amour N'est Rien. These two best moments of __Point de Suture__ are the super-catchy, faux-innocent, and joy-inspiring __Appelle mon Numero__ and the gorgeous, haunted and haunting title track, __Point de Suture__, which is even more mesmerizing than Annie Lennox's most private moments.
A few other songs are nearly as fantastic, such as Reveiller le Monde, Je M'ennuie, and the first single, Degeneration. The only true horror, and genuinely shocking disappointment is the "duet" with Moby. It is not worth discussion, and is certainly not worthy of inclusion in her opus. His voice is terrible in relation to hers and to the music. What were they thinking? He is a poor David Bowie substitute. Mylene and Laurent are musicians and poets of such a high order, that to put out so few albums, and to take such great care with their collective output, this misstep seems disturbing and unfortunate. Guere de logique.
Oh well, Farmer and Boutonnat are without equals, and I absolutely love their universe. Bravo et brava! Neil T of Minneapolis, MN neilbartz@msn.com

5.0 out of 5 stars L'ANGE ROUGE N'ECHOUERA JAMAIS A ME PLAIRE !!!!, September 11, 2008
This review is from: Point De Suture (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars CD is Great - But there's no enhanced video clip for 'Dégénération', September 17, 2008

Mylene Farmer does it again. It's a shame the American music market is so xenophobic that this release will be largely overlooked. Try it, you'll like it! And don't be put off by critics who refer to Mylene as "the French Madonna." No offense to Madonna, but Mylene takes it to a whole other level.
One caveat to potential buyers - this version of the CD DOES NOT include the 'Dégénération' video - so be sure to check it out on YouTube (and shame on Amazon.com for the misleading description).

**************************************

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect album for the perfect come back, January 28, 2009
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Point De Suture (Dig) (Audio CD)
Well personally this is one of the best Mylène's albums the lyrics are so beautiful as ussual but this album is different.

when you listen to the first track Dégénération you get impressed and i like specially this song, but other special one is Paradis Inanimé this song is extremly beautiful and shows you the beauty of french music, it reminds me too the Anamorphosée era because of the guitars and
si j'avais au moins this track makes me cry, the lyrics are so poetical and the guitar solo at the end of this song is magnific

so that's why i rate it as a five stars disc i really recomned this album

It is great to see all the support for Mylène's latest album. I have been a fan of Boutonnat/Farmer since they started and absolutely love most of what they do.

Unfortunately, I struggled to appreciate Avant que l'ombre where Mylène high pitch singing is weak and hollow and was accompanied by quite uninspired music. Shame as I want to like everything they do.

And, in my opinion, things are getting worse and I can no longer connect to the latest "Mylène" outputs like Point de Suture titles. They feature repetitive Euro beats, simplistic melodies, monotonous rythms and music. "Appelle mon numéro" seems to be aimed at young teenagers and is mightily irritating (like 90% of the material on this album).

If targetting teenagers is the new way, then it is spot on and you may like this album but I feel the departure from what made her great too big for me to follow. Where are the haunting scores, catchy tunes without being trash, moody lyrics and atmosphere?

One could draw a parallel with Madonna and her genre twisting "Confessions on a Dance Floor", and if this Mylène's attempt, then I think it fails.

Call me old school but you can't call this Mylène Farmer (...Alizée?)

4.0 out of 5 stars A little bit of rediscovery, a little bit of rehashing, September 24, 2008

On first listening to Points de suture, I couldn't escape the sensation that I had heard several of the songs before. This is not to say that they aren't good songs. They are. But the album doesn't startle or surprise the way that Innamoramento and Avant que l'ombre revealed new things about just what Mylène and Laurent Boutonnat (who writes the music) thought they could get away with - and did! This is a more conventional album - no Little Princes, no iconoclastic virgins, no silly surprises like QI and nothing as sharply put together as "F* them all."

On balance, Points de suture is a pretty good album. At its best, it's quite good. The title track recalls the haunting "Ainsi sois-je," just as the doll stitched together sends one's mind back to the androgynous Mylène doll on the cover of the album by that name. It's just a question of getting past the sense that the music, too, is stitched together from things past.

"Je m'ennuie" and "Appelle mon numéro" are catchy little tunes and will likely grown on you quickly. "Paradis inanimé," a proper rock song, is a solid point in the album. And "Si j'avais au moins..." is a nice rock ballad. "Reveiller le monde" and "Sextonik," however, leave me thinking back to "Désenchantée" and "Je t'aime mélancolie" for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. And I've mentioned the similarities between "Points de suture" and "Ainsi sois-je."

Mylène fans will, of course, want this album. It's not as though she's lost her voice. Those new to Mylène will find a nice voice and reasonably good music behind it. But if you're new to Mylène and looking for something fantastic, better go with Avant que l'ombre.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mylene Farmer- "Point De Suture", September 15, 2008
This review is from: Point De Suture (Audio CD)
I have been a long time fan of Mylene Farmer. In this album, Mylene returns to her older "dark, moody, dance" style. It's a very pleasant, entertaining album in spite of the fact it sounds very much like many of her older albums. It would be great if Mylene released an English language album so that she could become well known in the USA. Although she does have a cult following here, the sad fact is most people in America have never heard of her! I think she could be a big star here if people had the chance to listen to her music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and Great CD from the queen of french pop, October 9, 2009

When this CD came out, it shocked people, even her fans. Many were saying, huh?, what? when they heard "Dégénération". Oh no, it's all going downhill, just like one reviewer here stated. Hardly any lyrics, why, these are just a bunch of dance songs. Well, yes but much more... It grows on you. It envelopes till you are so addicted to these songs. I went to her concert in Stade de France (for the 2nd time) and she is awesome! The songs are awesome! Such presence! My favorite is C'est dans L'air, love the beat on this. Then the rest of the songs in order of preference..Dégénération, Sextonik, Je M'ennuie, Si J'avais Au Moins... (plus Ave Maria <--comes after about 1-2 minutes after), Reveiller Le Monde, Paradis Inanimé, Appelle Mon Numéro, Point De Suture, Looking For My Name (En duo avec Moby <--yes, the american). I consider this CD among her best really. It's up there.

This is a very good CD. I have heard other music by Mylène Farmer and like them all, but this one has a kind of beat I cannot resist.

I was first attracted to the song Dégéneration, which prompted me to buy the album. When I got the CD I immediately found myself drawn to the the songs Je M'Ennuie and Appelle Mon Numéro. I wish people in my area had a taste in foreign music. It really gets the body moving =P
