Pleasant Jazz Piano Vocals,
By KC "metroxing" (Northern CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Point of View (Audio CD)
He has a pleasant pop-growly voice - at his best, he sounds a little like Tony Bennett but mostly he sounds like a less nasal Bobby Short and like Bobby Short, he doesn't seem fully commited to these songs. Bobby Short seems to lightly commit to the songs he's singing, more interested in skipping over them as lightly as possible so while Bobby Cole has an interesting voice, he's not really committed to singing with it - which sounds an odd thing to say about a singer but its' true here.
What might make more sense is that Tony Benett or Harry Connick Jr. really do not have the greatest voices or the greatest range but they are commited fully to every song they song. They make you believe there is a Nightingale in Berkely Square or It Had to be You but here, Bobby Cole has greater range but seems reluctant to use it ... It's pleasant but not very engaging ... |
