4.0 out of 5 stars A minor genre classic, October 30, 2004

I picked up on Sunday's Best when I was about 21, a little more than a year before this LP came out. As of late 2004, five years later, I doubt the band has done anything in over two years. The production and hooks on this LP are tight, and the vocals are awesome - a cross between Thom Yorke and Jim Adkins (of J.E.W.) if you can picture that. One word of advice: don't open your debut album with a song that most people will take for "Don't Stand So Close To Me," by The Police.

4.0 out of 5 stars almost there, June 2, 2002
This review is from: Poised to Break (Audio CD)
I must admit that this cd is much better than I anticipated but wasn't quite at the 5 star level. This cd is great for anyone into the emo/indie rock scene. It sounds kind of like Get Up Kids meets Weakerthans. It took me two listens before I connected with #6(When is Pearl Harbor Day?) and a few listens more before I completely fell in love with the rest of the album. He has an amazing voice and each song sounds completely unique from the previous one. My only complaint is that the melody and words to the verses are awesome but they build up to a very basic chorus line that is repeated a few times to fill the chorus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hell yeah...., March 12, 2001
This review is from: Poised to Break (Audio CD)
Stumbled across this band just by chance, and I'm really glad that I did...these guys are sweet. I agree with one of the other reviewers that this stuff is super-catchy, but Sunday's Best manages to escape the pitfall of catchy tracks that suck after the fifth time you listen to them. This is good stuff, lyrically and musically. Like J.E.W.? You'll definitely dig this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of 2000's best albums...., July 27, 2001

one of my favorite albums of 2000. if you like rainer maria you'll love these guys... super catchy, but also really rocken. sunday's best's lyrics are wonderful: "i hate nostalgia / it trys to hard / to remember only the easy parts." and the hidden track shows just how great these guys are as instrumentalists... do yourself a favor and don't pass this cd up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Catchy Indie Pop, February 15, 2001

Sunday's Best is an excellent band that has been around for awhile but has gotten very little attention..until now that is. Their previous CDEP on Crank was mediocre (in my opinion), but with "Poised to Break" they guys have really struck a chord with me. The cd is ultra-catchy with more hooks then a pile of dead fish, and amazingly infectious melodies. When you get tired of a lot of the average boring indie/emo (for lack of a better term..I'm sorry..really I am) like the GUK and TPR make sure to pick up this little gem..I'm quite sure it will be glued in your cd player for a long time.

A bit more "pop" in this album when compared to their older stuff, but man is it good! Not much else I can say. Its a really well done album that shows a new side of this great band. See that buy button up there, click it! Yeah, I mean you! You'll like this.
