Not impressed,

I love mysteries. I love antiques. So I was excited to see a book that combines two of my passions.
But I just wasn't impressed. The characters are unbelievable and way overdone. A dingbat leading lady, a sidekick who thinks she's Chinese and lies consistently, an elderly mom with a shoe fetish, and situations that are unbelievable at best. I could handle this stuff normally, but it was all so distracting I nearly lost the storyline. This book was more a political statement than a cozy mystery novel to curl up with. Rather than allowing me to "fall in love" with her characters, the author preaches about the evils of hunting and Republicans. Her political bias not only shines through, but blinds us. If you're conservative like I am, you won't be happy about her incessant jabs at our values. I kept reading though, but almost put it down when she described a tacky velvet painting of George W. Bush surrounded by flames. It was a painting of him in Hell, "where he should be." I'd rather send this book down there.

Would someone please get this poor woman an editor. I have read all of Tamar Myers books and this is the worst. Disjointed, inconsistent story line, misidentified characters - a very sloppy offering from this author. Do not buy or waste your time reading this book.

Great start, ridiculous ending.,
This review is from: Poison Ivory (Den of Antiquity Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
I do like the Den of Antiquity mystery series, quite a bit. The lead character is wonderful and so are supporting characters. I found that Poison Ivory was funny, entertaining and filled with great dialogue between the characters. The only two negatives for me was that from chapter 23 onward the storyline became unbelievably ridiculous and silly that it ruined the ending of the novel for me.
Plus the editing for this novel wasn't great. I was surprised to see quite a few misspellings, etc. for this book. I thought editors took care of these type of issues for the author before the book was published.

The worst book in the series!,

Someone should tell Tamar Myers to give up writing all together. She has no clue about writing mysteries. The characters are ridiculous and annoying. Why does she have to constantly mention the back history of the main character? She did this more than once in this book as well as the Penn Dutch series. When a book is going to be published isn't there an editor who checks it over to make sure it all makes sense? Obviously this book publisher is cheap and just hired someone off the street as editor. Don't waste your time on this author. She isn't worth it. I am sorry trees gave their lives for this series of books. What a waste!
If you want to read a good series of books look up Rhys Bowen. She is excellent.

Don't bother,
This review is from: Poison Ivory (Den of Antiquity Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
This wasn't even worth checking out of the library. The storyline was all over the place. The characters were cartoonish. The entire thing was forgetable.
Why are so many funny mystery authors publishing books that make them look like they've fried their brain cells? Tamar Myers joins Rita Mae Brown on my list of authors I'll be avoiding.

I AM DONE WITH READING TAMAR MYERS BOOKS....SHE JUST ISN'T PUTTING THE EFFORT INTO WRITING THEM ANYMORE....SAD AND DISAPPOINTING.... LINDA

Great Southern Cozy Mystery,

One of my all time favorite genre's is the cozy mystery and I especially love those that are set in the Southern part of the United States. Tamar Myers' series staring Abigail Timberlake Washburn, are witty and captivating, and a great read, especially for rainy days by the fire. Abigail is a modern day Ms. Marple meets Lucy Ricardo, and you never know what sort of trouble she is going to get herself into! That's part of the fun of reading these wonderful books. Myers' character development is outstanding, and her descriptions of Charleston and other Southern towns make the reader feel as if they are strolling the streets with Abigail. I also recommend Patricia Sprinkle's Southern mysteries.
