Much to his mother's dismay, Tobias Smator is not interested in becoming the next Lord, he's happy to leave that privilege to his cousins. But someone wants it badly, badly enough to kill for it, as Tobias found out first hand when he was poisoned and his cousin Serge was knifed to death. Saved by Geln Marac, Tobias finds himself drawn to the stranger who saved his life, wanting to know more about him.
Arel, alias Geln Marac is on his first undercover assignment. The magnitude of the assignment eluded his scope, at first, when he finds himself a hero and a suspect in a murder plot. To keep the Alliance he works for safe Geln Marac resorts to temporary memory loss leaving himself an amnesiac, and needing to trust in Tobias for both their safety.
Poison is a multifaceted Sci-Fi story. It's a very involving and one that I couldn't put down until I completed it. This story incorporates a lot more than romance. There are rules of society that are obeyed and how one set of people is held superior even in a future society. Joely Skye has great talent for writing Sci-Fi and mixing it with an interesting romance of two men who need each other for survival and not just sex. Sci-Fi lovers and Joely Skye fans will not be disappointed with this story, in fact it will leave them wanting more.

Star-crossed Lovers

Societal and cultural differences separate Tobias Smator and Geln Marac is this exciting story that is part science-fiction, part mystery and part political thriller.
Tobias is the nephew to the regent of Riminia and he is interested in inheriting his title. He lives with his matchmaking mother and they are secluded in the family manor. Tobias is not interested in politics but he does want to be Lord. Gel is a spy who wants to take over Riminia and he infiltrates the society by using Tobias's mother. He uses sex to get what he wants. When Tobias is poisoned, Geln saves his life and Tobias is immediately attracted to him even though homosexuality is illegal where he lives.
The two men become involved and as Tobias discovers his sexuality, Geln shows him how to love a man. However, this love does not deter Geln to continue in his scheme and to use Tobias in it. However his love for Tobias interferes with his aims. There are perils and betrayals and a top-notch thriller ensues. I found myself involved in the book and it is a story of survival as well as sex. The society of Riminia which is divided into Elites and Workers is a look at politics and the strictness of rules.

Poison by Joely Skye, May 8, 2008
Poison is a very strange novel. I actually can't say if I fully understand it.
In a fantasy regency world, Rimania, people are divided in Elite and Worker. They are closed cast and only Elite can do politics and have access high class; they are so strict on their rules that a worker is not even allowed in presence of Elite if not as personal servant.
Tobias is the nephew of the actual regent. His father attempted to his brother's life once, and was killed for this. Now Tobias prefer to live secluded in his manor with a matchmaking mother. He is not interest in politics, but when his uncle is murdered and some days after also his cousin, only another cousin remains between Tobias and the regency. And he is not very happy of that.
Meanwhile Geln, an outworld spy of the Alliance who wants to take over of Rimania, infiltrates in the Elite's society through Tobias' mother. Geln is a spy and also a "whore": he is sex to reach his purposes; after being the "prostitute" of a revolutionary worker, Arjes, now he is the paramour of Dressia, Tobias' mother. But when Tobias is poisoned, surprisingly Geln saves his life. Tobias is an innocent 23 years old man, who is not aware of all the politic troubles around him: he only realizes that people he loved were killed and he wants to know why. But when he meets Geln, he realizes also something else: he is attracted by a men, even if they said to him that in this new Elite society, homosexuality is extinct.
Tobia and Geln embark in a strange relationship, where Tobia discovers his sexuality and Geln tries to teach him how beautiful can be with a man and meanwhile tries to go on with his plan without using innocent Tobias as a pawn. But Geln is not so tough as he thinks, and past experiences make him a little skittish when he faces a true and sincere love.
Among betrayals and perils, the reader starts to understand to not trust no one and maybe the less human of all will be the more trustworthy of all.
