WOW,
This review is from: Poison Kiss (Audio CD)
I am not going to write a long review, but all i have to say is WOW. i bought this cd after hearing the single "pictures of you" not expecting too much although it is a great song and i was definatley shocked to say the least. every song from top to bottom is amazing. there are no flaws in this album and this is for sure one of the best albums that ive ever listened to and i have a feeling i will be listening to this cd for a long time from my new favorite band, the last goodnight.
if you liked the first single or if youre just a fan of alternative rock i highly recommend this cd. it is absolutley great

"Poison Kiss" is an amazing debut album. I immediately fell in love with "Pictures of You" and the rest of the album really demonstrates superb craftmanship. The Last Goodnight is just one of many bands coming out lately like Keane, The Killers, Rooney, The Feeling, etc. that really have brought back actual talent to the music business. A concept that seemed to be completely forgotten during the dismal 90's--with every band sounding like everyone else and with a hollow, depressing sound.
Hats off to great talent like The Last Goodnight!

I purchased this album during Black Friday, when Amazon had a bunch of albums for $5 each. What I found is that for the cost of a ridiculously doctored cup of coffee, I was given track after track of refreshingly different sound. Every track was well-written, with lyrics that were clearly well thought out, and tunes that you won't mind having stuck in your head. They vary from "Poison Kiss," which makes you want to get up and...do something! to the heart-breakingly lonely "If I Talk To God." My favorite is still "This Is The Sound," though there really aren't any tracks that I wouldn't recommend. Definitely a quality buy!

I heard the song "PICTURES OF YOU" on XM radio (can't remember which channel) and it was really good. So I found this album on Amazon and ordered it. I expected maybe one or two good songs. Instead I have 6 or 7 that are so good I have to listen over and over again. But I really like the entire CD. I agree with others: this is one of the best bands in the world. ...very well produced indeed! "Stay Beautiful" is a super track. My very favorite track is "One Trust". I just can't put in words how much I like that track! (And by the way, if you like this, you'll also like The Cinematics' "A Strange Education" CD.)

Took a Chance & Wow,

In December 2007, I had begun seeing a girl (without really knowing it). It was a casual affair at first. A friend of mine was having a birthday and not knowing what to get her, I walked into the record store and picked this album up and took it to the listening post.
I loved it so much, having never heard any of their stuff ever in my life and bought it, I wanted to give this album to my friend for her birthday instead I kept it and bought her something else. I instantly loved "This Is The Sound", "One Trust", and "Return To Me". The girl I was seeing we became boyfriend and girlfriend and have experienced together and overcome a lot of the issues/themes the frontman talks about. I wonder how they will top such a masterpiece when it is time to do a follow up? I have never heard such a perfect first debut album. Well done and please tour in Auckland, New Zealand, I'll buy VIP seats and you'll see me and my still girlfriend who fell in love together with each other as well as with the music of The Last Goodnight.

The Good
The opening keyboard & organ tones on "Poison Kiss" are sure to make you scratch your head a bit, but the harmonic vocals and catchy chorus are sure to win you over in the end. Vocalist Kurtis John lays down some sweet melodies on both the microphone and piano on "Back Where We Belong." It's not hard to miss that The Last Goodnight is all about harmony. It's blatantly more apparent than on "Stay Beautiful." Soulful emotion and heartfelt lyrics are abundant on the ballad "This is the Sound." On the opposite end of the emotional spectrum is the mellow track "Return to Me." The progressive effects add texture to "Incomplete." The Bad The band's image doesn't fit their musical style. There are way too many ballads, when the band sounds so much better with upbeat material. The Verdict Poison Kiss is rich in vocal melodies and textured rhythms. Anytime you can work piano into rock music is always a plus in my book. Take out a few of the ballads and add more energetic rockers and you have yourselves a 5.

This is a great debut album and it's not getting enough attention. The band caught my attention after I listened to the song 'Pictures of You' on VH1. After listening to the sample tracks I decided to buy the album and it's worth every penny. Every single song on the album was very well made. The more I listen to them, the more I like the album. Beside 'Pictures of You, my other favorites are 'This is the Sound', 'Return to Me', and 'Incomplete'. It's an awsome band!

From The Last Goodnight.
Each track is very well done, written and played. Not a song on the cd that i dont enjoy or wouldnt want to listen again. But a couple of them i do enjoy more they are: Good Love, In Your Arms and Incomplete (different from the BSB song of the same name) Hopefully "Poison Kiss" takes off for the band. It's deserving of much recognition by many. |
